I’m betting the Ukrainian commanders “volunteer” their soldiers who are native Russian speaking Ukrainians
I wonder if American basic training still teaches the old bayonet mine search method we used to receive.
It’s called MOS 12B, and it’s a fundamental part of their job.
Explosive mine clearing rockets, vehicle mounted anti-mine rollers and plows, etc., are fast and flashy, but easily spotted.
Sappers on their bellies are slower, but a lot of the time they can get their job done without being noticed.
