Whoa Canada! Traffic Injuries Up Nearly 500% After Pot Legalization
New York Post ^ | Sep. 7, 2023 | Alex Mitchell

New research has connected the rise of pot culture to a near 500% increase in traffic-related injuries in Canada over 12 years — especially since the legalization of recreational marijuana in 2018, the University of Ottawa and partners said.

Their study was published Wednesday in the journal JAMA Network Open.

“Our findings highlight a concerning increase in cannabis-involvement in traffic-injury emergency visits over time, with even sharper spikes following the phases of legalization and commercialization,” lead author Dr. Daniel Myran said in a statement of the 475% rise. “Conversely, alcohol-involvement in traffic injury [emergency department] visits did not increase over the study period, which suggests that legalization of cannabis has played an important role in rising rates.”

Marijuana is NOT harmless. It is very dangerous.

Cannabis is stored in the body's tissues and time-released.

People who smoke marijuana regularly are constantly intoxicated, just as if they were constantly drunk on alcohol. The biggest difference is that people intoxicated with alcohol know that they are intoxicated.

People intoxicated with cannabis often do not realize that they are intoxicated. They make bad decisions and have bad judgment, but they do not realize it.

When one stops smoking marijuana or using is in any other way, it can take weeks or even months to clear up the confusion of the sensorium. Meanwhile, they do not think clearly.

Marijuana is extremely dangerous.

Potheads just think this is funmy. All they care about is getting high. Everything else in life is meaningless to them.

Since legalization in my state, I have noticed more drivers doing bizarre things. The most common one, which I've also heard mentioned by a couple of acquaintances, is someone making a left turn right in front of your oncoming car.

Of course, this might not necessarily be the result of being stoned. It could just be part of the ongoing Great Dumbing Down.

‘Especially since 2018’?
How about ‘especially since the Covid vax’ while they’re at it.

How about legislation mandating a negative urine test prior to voting on marijuana laws.

The biggest difference is that people intoxicated with alcohol know that they are intoxicated.

I've known functioning alcoholics, and they act sober when they're constantly drinking. The body learns to function under the influence of alcohol if given enough time, until there comes a time that the person must drink to function normally.

When they stop they go through withdrawls.

I remember when references to avoiding "skunks on the highway" had an entirely different meaning.

I personally know people that will not drive after 2 stiff drinks, but truly believe they can smoke a bowl and jump in the car. Most people that are drunk know they shouldn’t drive, but unfortunately do. Most weedheads don’t even have that awareness.

especially since climate change kicked into high gear, and transphobia increased. Not to mention hate speech violations.
