Too bad most American conservatives are probably ignorant of the big political storm raging around Israel's Supreme Court. It was big enough that up until the Hamas invasion, it looked like a civil war was about to break out.

I have wondered if the political strife in Israel was one reason that Hamas chose the timing they did for their attack.

I believe that I read that they had been planning this attack for two years. And I'm sure the idea of attacking on Simchat Torah was no spur-of-the-moment thing.

I agree that they had obviously been preparing for an attack for a long time. And timing an attack to coincide with a Jewish holiday is something they do; that doesn't limit it much though -- there are lots of Jewish holidays.

But they could have waited if they thought that waiting would be more propitious. Instead they looked at the political infighting in Israel and the weakness demonstrated by the Biden administration, and said that now is the time.

Of course I'm just speculating. But I think it makes sense,
