Iran's Revolutionary Guards Claim Deadly Attack They Say Targeted Israeli Installation in Iraq

Civilians were killed in attack condemned by U.S., France but not yet acknowledged by Israel

Iran fired missiles late Monday at what it claimed were Israeli "spy headquarters" near the U.S. Consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil, and at targets linked to the extremist group Islamic State in northern Syria.

Four civilians were killed and six injured after missiles hit an upscale area near the consulate in Erbil, the seat of Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region, according to the security council of the Kurdish regional government.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said in a statement that it had hit a headquarters of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, in the Kurdish region of Iraq. Another statement said it had fired a number of ballistic missiles at "terrorist operations," including Islamic State targets, in Syria and destroyed them.

Yeah, Iraq will not let the Israelis have an embassy there but they will allow the Mossad to have a base there.

Uh-huh.

Iran really should stop taking so many drugs.

Bush Jr’s “deBaathification” destroyed Iraq. Criminalizing the entire government and disbanding the Iraqi Army resulted in a power vacuum, chaos and insurgency. But Bush wanted to force democracy on a region where they just don’t want it. And now there is no counter to Iranian hegemony from Iran to the Mediterranean Sea. What a disaster.

The only reason I voted for that idiot is that the alternative was worse.

Erbil is the capital of the Kurdish region in Iraq. Israel supports an independent Kurdistan and has trade relations with the Kurds. So it is entirely possible Mossad has a base there.

I will once again point out, no embassy.

No diplomatic mission, no consulate.

An exchange of goods for money, while nice, does not mean that you would allow them to set up a spy headquarters when you do not even allow them to set up a place for diplomatic relations.

You regularly give your local store money for goods, how many of your local grocery employees would you let sleep in your bedroom?

Logic and reason is a good place to start when considering the propaganda spewed by the Iranians.

Remember, their religion commands them to lie.

This may come as a surprise to you but the Mossad is a secretive organization. The Iraqis did not “allow” anything. When the Mossad was found out they were “allowed” to leave or die. The Iraqis said please leave to the Americans. DJT said please bring our troops home from Iraq NOW. The generals said screw you to Iraq and Trump. There will come a time, if this continues, when those American troops will be “allowed” to leave or die as well.

I’ve gone from an amused tolerance of GWB to thinking he was among the very worst presidents we’d had in quite a while. The very idea that an overwhelming US attack on Iraq would lead to a nationwide adoption of some form of democracy was a truly puerile idea that any Arab high-school student could have easily and quickly debunked.

Throughout history, the hardest thing to do has always been to get people to change their religion. So with massive military action we were going to get the Iraqis to renounce their religion (where their local Imam is the governing entity) in favor of some form of democracy, where elected representatives were the new governing entity; of which they had zero experience in their entire history and which was being installed perforce by an invading army; was simply absurd.

This may come as a surprise to you but what you said made absolutely no sense.

This may come as a surprise to you but the Mossad is a secretive organization. The Iraqis did not “allow” anything. When the Mossad was found out they were “allowed” to leave or die.

Huh? What the blue blazes does that mean? Are you trying to say that IRAQ was the one who "discovered" a Mossad base and had IRAN bomb it? Or are you claiming that IRAQ actually did the bombing in their own country and told IRAN to take credit for it?

The Iraqis said please leave to the Americans. DJT said please bring our troops home from Iraq NOW. The generals said screw you to Iraq and Trump.

Once again no sense to be made here.

American troops left Iraq back in 2009. Trump was not in office.

There will come a time, if this continues, when those American troops will be “allowed” to leave or die as well.

So the troops that are not there will..... I give up.

Come back when you are sober.

So they’ve bombed three countries in the last three days?
This is escalating faster than I thought it would.

Sorry for the brutality of Saddam but Iraq was the counter balance to Iran. Real politik doesn’t care about feelings. The only factor involved in American foreign policies should be the safety, security and defense of America and Americans. Iran continues to terrorize the world and murder Americans. They are within the reality of being nuclear armed. If they had their way, a major American city of their choosing would be wiped out or better yet an EMP turning the country’s lights out. Iran should have been wiped out after the Iranian Beirut slaughter of our Marines.

No way that Israel has a “base” in Iraq.

But all the same, Israel should give some payback to the camel jockeys for all of the trouble that they’ve caused over the years. Maybe a sub-launched cruise missile or 10, armed with cluster munitions that can be dropped all over Iran’s oil refineries. Nice economy you have there, it’d be a shame if something bad happened to it.

Iran is pushing harder to see where America’s red lines are. They feel that Biden won’t do anything in an election year. So they attacked bases used by Americans. America said there were no injuries. Were there? We don’t know because we can’t trust what the government says. Why was it necessary to say there were no American injuries so fast? It’s obvious Iran intended that there would be American deaths. They even hit individual houses with ballistic missiles. That’s pretty dam good shooting. They’re sending messages and we’re saying, “Hey, do whatever and we’ll ignore it.”

We won’t do anything before the election, and they know it.

And spy agencies have “headquarters” with big signs over the door: “Secret Stuff” or “Shhh! Spies at work.” It’s where they train the pigeons and ravens.

This is the farthest missile Iran has ever launched. It’s a message to Israel demonstrating their missile capability (showing they could easily hit with precision targets in Israel).

The reason Iraq was effed up was because Obama precipitously pulled out in a disaster much like Biden’s handover of Afghanistan to the Taliban, leaving everyone who had allied with us hung out to dry, and our pullout allowed ISIS to flood in from Syria, and Iran to consolidate power in the south.
