WTH??? We have “outposts” in Jordan? I read a day or two ago there are over 200 US bases around the world. Is an “outpost” included in that number? How many such “outposts” do we have around the world? What are we doing there?

The troops are blocking the use of the Al Tanf crossing from Iraq to Syria.
The US strategy requires blocking use of transportation corridors between Iran and Syria via Iraq. In the north the Kurds perform the blocking function. In the south, ISIS was useful for this purpose, but they got out of hand. Having been defeated, the remnants of ISIS provide a convenient excuse to keep US troops in position to blockade Syria’s eastern border.
