To: Ronaldus Magnus III
I met and even got to know Cesar Chavez a little bit. Was actually impressed by the guy. Unlike Jesse Jackson, he actually cared about his people and was committed to making their lives better.

Didn't agree with many of his methods but his heart was in the right place and he was not a shameless race grifter and self promoter like Jesse Jackson, who was (and is ) a world class scum bag and fraudster.

In retrospect, must confess that in some areas where we disagreed Chavez was right and I was wrong

Wasn’t Chavez against illegal migration, because he knew it would put downward pressure on wages?

That is interesting. I always thought his humble act was just that.

UFW is now nearly meaningless, and most farms vote down the union when they try to organize. The workers have figured out that UFW just screws the place up, causes trouble and the farm either closes down or lays them all off. In the Pajaro Valley, the big packers are moving inland for lower costs. Will probably all be condos in 20 years.
