Maybe the speed limits are too low.
Basing speed limits on the vehicles of the 1920s serves to produce revenue and prevent people from getting to their destinations in a timely manner.

Maybe the speed limits are too low.
I read somewhere a long time ago (maybe Car and Driver) that U.S. speed limits are almost universally 15mph lower than the design speed of the road.
Also, don't forget the pesky old California research that showed it isn't speed that causes accidents on highways, it's DIFFERENCE in speed (a mix of high and low speed vehicles).
