Columbia Law students demand passing grades after protests. Blame coddling schools

Columbia Law students want their final exams called off … in the name of Palestine.

In a recent letter, the student editors of the Columbia Law Review made a public call for the school to cancel the semester’s remaining exams and “give all students passing grades for their work throughout the semester.”

“We believe that canceling exams would be a proportionate response to the level of distress our peers have been feeling,” the unnamed students wrote in an open letter.

The plea comes after Columbia University, on April 30, authorized the NYPD to clear out trespassers who violently and forcibly took over the school’s Hamilton Hall (and smashed windows and trashed furniture while at it).

And yet these law students describe the police’s action as “violence” that “has irrevocably shaken many” of them and “the majority of our classmates.”

According to the Law Review board, law students have been rendered “unable to focus and highly emotional” due to recent events on campus. And, if the school says they can’t all just pass automatically, the Law Review’s letter asks that exams at least be graded on a pass or fail basis.

These needy kids might sound like the squeaky wheels — but a shocking 74.2% of Columbia Law School Students support pass-or-fail grading this semester. (Since 1994, the school has used an A, B, C, F grading system with “very few” credit/fail courses, according to its academic procedures.)

Cancel their law degree credits. They're so distraught they shouldn't graduate. How could they focus on entering such a demanding profession, when policemen were mean to them. Utter chutzpah.

No wonder judges are swearing off hiring those ninnies as law clerks. To Hell with the wannabe revolutionaries!

Year, let’s dumb things down even more and reward the protestors with passing grades even thought they chose to skip class. The “appropriate response” here is not to cancel exams. The appropriate response is to throw the protestors in jail after having expelled them from the university and reward those students who didn’t skip classes and continued to be students.

“give all students passing grades for their work throughout the semester.”

Let's make a Columbia degree even more worthless.

This idea must have been floated to students long before now to get them to protest.

I do feel bad for the students that aren’t completely bat-crap crazy that go there. The ones that were still trying to go to class.

They’ll probably get government sinecures, or else they’ll be safely insulated in a do nothing job in their father’s law firm.

Trying to graduate a class of about-to-be attorneys probably not that different than raising a pond full of baby crocodiles.

I believe I read there is a quiet rebellion by some judges and corporations that are not going to hire the latest crop of Columbia law graduates due to their condoning or participating in the recent capus BS. It will be interesting where they land? southern poverty/environmental/political activist law center, any one?

“We believe that canceling exams would be a proportionate response to the level of distress our peers have been feeling,” the unnamed students wrote in an open letter.

They believe the grief they've had to put up with for their own choices deserves canceling exams to make them feel better?

This is textbook insanity, and it's from Law students.

I want to interject here that someone I heard interviewed repeated the new excuse “Most Columbia students do not protest and support vandalism and destruction of the ones in the tents. These are a minority.”

This is wrong. I believe like most people they are complacent, weak, cowardly sheep. They are just as quick to cancel or dox someone who supports Trump, boycott any conservative and look the other way when someone loses their job over saying the wrong gender pronoun.

ALL the Columbia students did not rush out to physically fight the tent dwellers. They want the credit, though for being “nice.”

So, I had covid month before last and watched daytime TV while recuperating on the sofa.

I happened to catch The Price is Right and there was a girl who had just turned 18 who made it up on stage. She won her game and advanced to the actual showcase part of the show when her spin beat the other contestants. She was euphoric - outright giddy and laughing and smiling. When she got to her showcase and it was her time to bid, everyone in the audience was screaming out numbers and she bid over $50k on her her $30,000-ish showcase. The crowd booed at her high bid and she yelled out, “I just bid what they told me to!” and she looked like she was going to cry.

When they came back from commercials, she was distraught and didn’t smile again when her bid was an overbid and the other contestant won.

She had sailed through with good bids and won her game, spinning the wheel and I got the feeling that she expected to continue her win all the way through. It was odd as everyone else took their losses in stride but she didn’t look like she had ever NOT won in her life.

Anyway, what I took from that is that we have hundreds of thousands of these same kids in school/graduating who were never told no, always got a trophy and never lost anything that mattered.

Buckle up.

Everyone should be pointing the finger at Biden demanding him to condemn these terrorist and to end the occupation. But of course, no one will do that because this entire distraction is brought to you by the democrats.

I wish I had known that just starting or participating in a riot would have gotten me out of finals. That sounds a lot easier than studying all semester and trying to do well on all the tests and labs.
