The presidential election isn’t playing out how I thought it would (CNN's Fareed Zakaria is sounding the alarms)
CNN ^ | 05/11/2024 | Fareed Zakaria

When President Joe Biden made clear that he was going to run for reelection, I had a sense of what his election strategy was and thought it was an intelligent path to victory. After the chaos of Covid-19 and the administration of former President Donald Trump, Biden would stand for normalcy and a rising tide of good economic news. Trump would divide Republicans, with significant chunks of the party wishing that someone like former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would be their nominee. Meanwhile, Trump would unite and motivate Democrats, allowing Biden to focus on independent voters in the swing states that threw the Electoral College to Trump in 2016 and to Biden in 2020.

I have to admit, none of this is playing out as I had thought. Trump is now leading in almost all the swing states, and behind those numbers lie even more troubling details. As someone worried about the prospects of a second Trump term, I think it is best to be honest about reality. I understand that polls are not always accurate, but in general they have tended to underestimate Trump’s support, not overestimate it. I doubt that there are many shy Biden voters in the country.

The economy has been in a robust recovery for more than two years now — with unemployment hitting a 54-year low in 2023 and increasing only slightly since then — but Biden is getting little credit for it. The shift here is stark. On the question of whom voters trust more to deal with the economy, Trump has a 22-point lead over Biden, according to an NBC poll from January. This marks a 15-point bump for Trump compared to the same poll in 2020. Perhaps this is because inflation is a far more pervasive...

Yes, I know that I've been on "Team DeSantis" for the last couple of years. But I honestly and truly hope to be celebrating in November when Trump wins his re-election.

I will vote, without any hesitation, for Trump.

And then I will hold his feet to the fire and implore him to do his best to make America great again.

And I hope he picks a running mate who can grab that torch and run with it.

I won’t be happy until the media declares that Trump is too old to be President.

The only “chaos” was what the left created.

IF this author is placing his thoughts on Biden’s UNEMPLOYMENT numbers-—HE is being sadly misled.

Biden’s numbers in many areas have been fabricated completely. IN EVERY MANNER & FORM.

Tossing dice at Vegas is more usable.

The numbers get pumped every reporting month & then-—WAAAAY behind the scenes, they get “ADJUSTED”-—somewhere near the Obituaries.

IF this is decent reporting——GOD HELP US ALL.

Where are these weirdos seeing a good economy? What planet do they live on, because it isn’t Earth.

A plaigerer to begin with. And those job numbers are Obamaesque. They include part time jobs.

Actually, the chattering class is seeing a very good economy. Ferrari dealerships are reporting record sales. There's a waiting list for luxury items.

This is precisely why they can't understand why the peasants in Walmart country are complaining.

I'll vote for Trump and it's a way of saying "F U" to the liberal elite who's running our country. That'll buy us four years, at least.>p>Otherwise, I'm not expecting too much.

They include gig-economy jobs.

You lost your good-paying job with benefits during Covid.

Now you drive for Uber and Door Dash. Biden created TWO JOBS for you!

Otherwise, I'm not expecting too much.

Same. I've set my bar very low. But even at the lowest, Trump will be better than Biden.

Plus, looking forward to the massive lefty meltdown as Trump clinches victory. I'll use lots of butter for that popcorn.

This whole “good economy” is a lie and Americans know it. How many young people can afford to buy a home? Nearly none. The cost of food isn’t coming down either. So….except for food and housing, everything is great!

5 Trillion dollars in deficit spending will produce growth, for government.

Instead of growing Government they could have saved Social Security.

You can lie to Americans about many things. But you can't lie to them about their pocketbook.

The economy has been in a robust recovery for more than two years now

These people are so removed from reality. Coupled with that they are pathological liars.

I have noticed over the years that the leftist intelligencia truly believes that if they repeat what they think happened, or what they believe "should" happen, enough times it will become reality.
