The Georgian parliament on Tuesday approved in the third and final reading the so-called “foreign agents bill”, which requires media and nongovernmental organizations and other nonprofits to register as “pursuing the interests of a foreign power” if they receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad.

Unfortunately the enforcement mechanism is a relatively small fine ($9,500). The US version, which it is modeled after, includes fines PLUS possible jail time.
Better than nothing, but hopefully Georgia can later bring it up to US standards.
Kind of funny. An organization that gets more than 20% of its funding from another country has to disclose that. Mass protests erupt. That’s about says it all about how much money we are pouring into Georgia.
Georgia in America should jump on this fast. Maybe in the confusion they can actually get some money for Americans lol.

That’s the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).
The US law applies to people who consistently act on behalf of a foreign country regardless if they get paid for doing so. Which is much more broad than the Georgian law.
We need a real foreign agents law wherein any organization or company must disclose whenever 10% of funds from all sources is from non-US sources, whether companies, organizations, or governments. And, put some teeth in foreign agent registration of anyone working on behalf of foreign companies, organizations, and governments. Let’s put some sunshine to the whole matter.
The protests have brought together the Russian and US supported groups, neither of which particularly want their sources of fund to dry up.
