Massive Ukrainian drone attack on Crimea causes power outages in Sevastopol

Kyiv says it has had some success pushing back against a renewed Russian offensive, but Ukraine's defences are in dire need of resupply.

A massive Ukrainian drone attack on Crimea early Friday caused power cutoffs in the city of Sevastopol and set a refinery ablaze in southern Russia, Russian authorities said.

The drone raids marked an attempt to strike back during Moscow's renewed offensive in northeastern Ukraine, which has added to the pressure on outnumbered and outgunned Ukrainian forces as they await delayed deliveries of crucial Western weapons and ammunition.

Ukraine has not commented on the attack nor claimed responsibility for it.

The Russian Defence Ministry said its air defences downed 51 Ukrainian drones over Crimea, another 44 over the Krasnodar region and six over the Belgorod region. It also said Russian warplanes and patrol boats had destroyed six sea drones in the Black Sea.

Moscow's claims could not be independently verified.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol, which is the main base for Russia's Black Sea Fleet, said the drone attack damaged the city's power plant. He said it could take a day to fully restore energy supplies and warned residents that power would be cut to parts of the city.

"Communal services are doing their best to restore the power system as quickly as possible," he said in a statement.

Razvozhayev also announced that schools in the city would be closed temporarily.

Is that supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing?

“Is that supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing?”

It’s the truth. I just want that out there when I post an article.

Certainly better than the sources Maxipad uses.

What Air Defense Doing?

Its amazing when you realize Crimea has the largest concentration of Russian air defense.

Impossible

The Russo-apologists have already assured us, multiple times, that Ukraine is “already finished” and the “war is over”

Russian air defense is kind of useless when it has to be kept off most of the time.

It’s a theme I keep hearing and it seems to fit the facts on the ground...and water.

The Moskva had ample air and missile defenses yet two missiles hit it and destroyed it anyway. Some folks at the time said the practice in the Russian navy was to only use certain equipment when it was needed in order to preserve its service life.

Since then I keep seeing video of Russian air defense systems and vehicles getting hit by missiles and logically these should be the hardest targets to destroy...if they’re active.

All I can imagine is that unless the Russians have some sort of forewarning of an attack that they keep their AA systems turned off.

It’s either this or even the discarded NATO weaponry being sent to Ukraine so outclasses the Russian AA gear that it makes the Russian defenses irrelevant.

Just being kind to our local franchise of the FSB I’m going to say the Russian gear is being left off most of the time.

Kind of a silly practice in a war zone. But if the Russians can’t keep up a 24/7/365 tempo then it makes sense.

I agree. The war ended ten days after it started. The past two years are just mop-up operations for the veritable and unstoppable juggernaut that is the Red Army.

Memo: They need better mops.

They have to keep the radars off. They don’t trust their system to be successful, and certain missiles are designed to specifically aim for whatever is emitting the most EMR. so by leaving it on, you broadcast your location and make the radar a prime target. So they’ll mostly only use it when they know stuff is in the air, already aimed at something else.

Russian forces are STUNNED by what they just found in Ukraine!!? | Redacted with Clayton Morris

What happens when when you steal all the money and don't build defensive structures to stop the advance of the Russian army? Ask Ukraine! New reports show Ukraine build shell companies to steal millions in US dollars meant for trenches and fortifications.

Ukraine gets more money per capita to the front than Russia. Ukraine gets more bang for the buck. Just look at Ukraine’s deep attacks and their game right down on the FEBA. All Russia can do is kill civilians in Kharkiv, but the Russian offensive went nowhere at a huge cost in Russian lives.

Maybe if Putin would fire some more ministers and replace them with weak non-leaders so as to minimize the coup threat. The little dictator can do some more reshuffles and go beg to China some more.

—” certain missiles are designed to specifically aim for whatever is emitting the most EMR”

All of that and Ukaraingas have been making AA/Radar a priority.

My guess was to ease the learning curve for a new wave of pilots when they acquire some aircraft.

Also, it creates a dilemma between military positions in or near Ukraine territory or energy processing sites in the Motherland.

Cat crackers do not grow on trees and logistics become more complex when you have to resupply more often.

And the interesting question of drone tactics/strategy.

Maybe that’s the case.

Maybe the Ukrainians just put out the welcome mat for the Russians to invade where Ukraine is ready for them. I guess we’ll see.

Ukraine gets more bang for the buck.

That's a creative way to admit Ukraine is losing. That would quite amusing if you were being sarcastic.

Wars aren't won based on how kills one side gets per round of ammo or missiles fired.

You can't win a war when you're running out of troops and have none left in reserve while the other side has hundreds of waiting in reserve.

Ukraine can only lose more lives and territory by continuing this war. I guess fine with that so long as more Russians die!

It's psychopathic to support one country fighting a war it can't win just to hurt the country it is fighting. Evil might be the better way to describe it.

And, both Zelensky and Biden fit the description of dictator more than Putin.

Given that Ukraine was the most corrupt country in Europe before the war began and the heart of neo-Nazism in the world, that possibility should surprise no one.

All you Russian trolls have no concept of people who love freedom. Ukraine will never give up and so they will win this war. They are much closer to winning than Washington’s army was in 1777 when MOST major cities of the colonies were occupied by the British.

You can cheer on your Holodomors, your Katyn Forest massacres, and your Buchas but those who have seen Moscow’s genocides will not now submit to your criminal rule. You repeat Moscow’s lies and are blind to their coming defeat.

“...Zelensky and Biden fit the description of dictator more than Putin...”

Putin changed the constitution so he could keep his bloody fingers in power. He is in his third decade of power. That fits the description of a dictator. He also murdered his main opposition Boris Nemtsov, and the murder was ceremonial near the Kremlin walls. That is the mark of a dictator. He had his next major rival Alexei Navalny arrested and sent to a far-flung prison camp where he died due to brutal conditions. That is the mark of a dictator. He invaded the Republic of Georgia and Ukraine and made criminal land grabs. That fits right in with the character of a dictator.

Let’s face it, Jack. You are a sycophant of a brutal dictator while brave Russians oppose him. You are indeed a criminal.

He keeps elected legitimately, far more so than Biden did her in 2020.

Russian elections are far cleaner than any election in a big blue city like Philadelphia.

He also murdered his main opposition Boris Nemtsov,

Meanwhile, Joe Biden IS trying to imprison his political opponent. We have hundreds of political prisoners -- peaceful J6 protesters and pro-lifers engaged in civil disobedience, far more than Russia does.

Everything you claim is true about Russia (but can come close to proving) IS true about us under Biden.

I personally don't give a hoot what has to happen to you to make you care more about the corruption in OUR government.
