Former Maryland governor and Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan (R) released a campaign ad in which he promised to codify Roe v. Wade if elected, to allow women to make their “own choice.”

“As governor, I promised to uphold Maryland law and abortion, while providing over-the-counter birth control covered by insurance. And, I kept my word,” Hogan began in a campaign video ad posted to X. “Today, with Roe overturned, many have asked what I’ll do in the United States Senate. I’ll support legislation that makes Roe the law of the land in every state, so every woman can make her own choice.”

So I guess he doesn’t want any Republican votes.

I refused to vote for that dirtbag in the primary. I had intended to grudgingly vote for him in November but I’m really rethinking it.

Reach around Larry is the best the GOP can do in MD.

There is nothing special about holding the majority because these are both fringe parties. Vote for whoever can erase him. All that matters is he is Swamp. The Dem can be erased next time, maybe with an Independent by then

If one Republican senatorial candidate loses this year, Larry Hogan would be my pick. As long as control of the Senate isn’t at stake, I’ll shed no tears if this RINO POG loses.

So sad. We need to start accepting that states were meant to “Codify” most issues.

Larry should be happy that Maryland largely will.

A Senator Hogan would certainly disappoint, time and time again. But Hogan would probably vote to confirm any Supreme Court nominee Trump 2.0 might pick.

No Democrat would ever do that.

So when it comes to Supreme Court nominees, a lousy Republican is light years ahead of any Democrat. Just something to consider.

Why would you rethink voting for Hogan in November?

You really think the idiot Democrat nominee has a better position on abortion?

What are your criteria for deciding who to vote for in a general election?

A Maryland “Republican” is really a Democrat with an R after their name.

I’m not a single issue voter but voting for an abortion supporter is not someone I’d support.

Some people on Free Republic, are frustrated that so many Republicans are RINO types.

It’s true that most Republicans are too liberal for us here on Free Republic.

But some Freepers say they’d rather vote for a Democrat over a RINO ,because eith the Democrat , you know exactly what you’re getting. And then they say if we vote Democrat , that’ll hasten the fall of the Republic, so that we can start over.

It’s not a matter of who is better or who gets control of the Senate.

These are both 27%-of-electorate parties. The world has changed. Hogan seeks to obstruct populism, that is, MAGA.

Erase him. Vote Democrat. At $36Trillion debt dollars nothing can be done regardless.

The republic can’t stand with $36T in debt so survival of the republic doesn’t matter. It’s already defined.

What CAN be done is Swamp erasure, and that only happens voting Independents or Republicans with zero political career.

End this guy’s.

Codify Roe v Wade? That case verdict was overturned by the USSC. How can it be codified? Does he mean just codify something under Maryland law where anything goes with abortion? He certainly can’t do anything about it nationally. That’s been settled.

“ So I guess he doesn’t want any Republican votes.”

You’re joking, right?

Any time abortion is on the ballot as an “all or none” question, abortion has overwhelming bipartisan support, including more than half of Republicans and virtually all Democrats and independents.

Abortion can be banned after 13 weeks by popular vote. But if a guy like Hogan running in a State like Maryland can be painted as supporting a ban or an absurd limit - he won’t get 25% of the vote.

Maybe you mean “he doesn’t want any FR imaginary GOP votes”, and you would be right - he doesn’t, because nobody needs those votes.

Yep, playing the DemocRATS own game against them. Promise the voters things that you know can’t be delivered upon.

Defeat the ‘RATS with their own weapons! You go, Governor.

What they mean by codifying Roe versus Wade, is to pass a federal law in the US Congress to allow abortion rights.

Nancy Pelosi tried to do this when she was still Speaker but was unsuccessful.
