Get the DVD. You won't regret it. Have a box of tissues on standby. First movie that ever got to me.

Watch for the closing credits! The music is "Mansions of the Lord" (hymn sung at Ronald Reagan's funeral).

Thanks for the ping, I caught it in the theater, and I've been watching the teaser on TV. We will definitely have it on this weekend.
Shotokan has it right...have the tissues ready. There are scenes that will rip your heart out. They're balanced with some fantastic humor from Sergeant Major Plumley (Sam Elliot).

The critics can say what they will, but Mel Gibson has been associated with some movies that get to me- this is one of them. There are some FReepers who were actually at Ia Drang, and if you didn't realize what they went through for us then, this film will bring it home to you.
(BTW, I first saw this film while my son was home on leave... it was actually unsettling for a dad whose only kid was headed back to Iraq within two weeks. And maybe it was supposed to be.)

I saw it at the theatre with another Vet. I ain't ashamed to say I was crying as I left the show.
It is an understatement to say that Mel Gibson is a gifted and powerful filmmaker.
See it.

I've waited to see it - because I was in Kentucky watching my kiddo graduate Army boot camp - the very same day the film was released...

I've been in some very nasty combat, but nothing, nothing like this. Great movie about a great Army unit.
