Washington Galvanized by the lightning-in-a-bottle success of conservative "tea party" candidates, moderate Republicans and others in the political center are looking for ways to push back against what they see as an advancing tide of ideological extremism.
"Middle America is being ignored by Washington and the media. Centrists are desperate for a voice today; they feel entirely unrepresented," said Mark McKinnon, a political strategist and former advisor to President George W. Bush.
"The tea party has tapped into voter frustration and anger," he said, "but does not represent millions of Americans in the vast middle."
The moves reflect political divisions that have only grown deeper as tea-party-backed insurgents have toppled candidates supported by the GOP establishment around the country.

People in the middle also generally don’t know anything because part of not giving a crap covers not giving enough of a crap to be informed.
Isn’t this james oliphant that left wing creep who wears the bowties? I am sure the lefties are overjoyed to give voice to the “concerned moderates” of the republican party because those are the people they have been rolling over forever.
Ruling class panic, Parties consolidate
Forget Tea Party Rally Around Us, Says Republican Stalwart
Typical voter too stupid to understand issues, says moderate John Kerry
Mark McKinnon is a democrat. He works for whoever. If he is worried about the Tea Party it is because he is liberal. NOT Moderate.
Establishment Republicans (RINO’s) are nothing more than the Blue Dog Progressives that could not go as far left as the Democrats have. The Progressive goals remain the same and if dolts like McKinnon do a little reading as to what happened to Progressives in the late teens of the last century, they would get a clue and melt into the background if they ever want another chance to fool well meaning voters back again.
The biggest problem they have is fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. The general voting public is starting to get it and they don’t like what they see in the mirror when wondering how we got here.
If they think this cycle is bad, just wait for 2012. We The People have taken the mantle and are tuned in like never before. Add to it the gridlock and finger pointing coming for the next two years and We The People will make further changes all around to fix the problem for a long time to come.
We’ve had to deal with Tory militia before.
“moderate” republicans are a creation of the left.
doing “bipartisanship” = democrats get their way.
johnny mccain is a “bipartisan” and “moderate” pubie.
and look at what his destruction of america.
Right now the Left are trying to set up a socialist control state, and the Right are trying to get back to freedom and small government.
So what does the middle want that would be between these two, and do they intend to fight BOTH the left and right to get it?
America's Ruling Class -- And the Perils of Revolution
Differences between Bushes, Clintons, and Obamas are of degree, not kind.
What are the core values of “the vast middle” that would consider the Tea Party positions “extremist”? The “Jello Party” won’t tolerate the political activism of those who are deeply concerned about the direction of this country.
One man’s/MSM ‘extremism’ is another man’s patriotism.
McCain Adviser Won’t Fight Obama
February 13, 2008 6:48 PM
ABC News’ Teddy Davis Reports: On Wednesday, a top adviser to John McCain said more definitively than he has in the past that he will step down from the Arizona senator’s presidential campaign if the presumed GOP nominee faces Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in the general election.
“I would simply be uncomfortable being in a campaign that would be inevitably attacking Barack Obama,” said McCain adviser Mark McKinnon in an interview with NPR’s “All Things Considered.” “I think it would be uncomfortable for me, and I think it would be bad for the McCain campaign.”
McKinnon, who was a Democrat before serving as President Bush’s ad maker in 2000 and 2004, said that he plans to be behind McCain “100 percent” no matter who the Democratic nominee is. He explained, however, that if the Democrats nominate Obama, he will be supporting McCain “from the sidelines.”
No denial about it. They're just playing patti-cake with words.
Bingo.
-THE MODERATE PARTY- slogan:
“We don’t believe strongly about much of anything”
Gee, thanks Jim. I don't think I've ever been called an insurgent before. I feel so proud!
McKinnon supported Obama. His credibility is given to him by the msm.
What he is really saying is that he is for the status quo.
Sorry we’re not buying that dog food.
They are clueless, but remember that elites hang with other elites. They don't know anyone in the "vast middle", nor do they care to. They might have seen a picture of one once accidentally - before they could avert their eyes.
Now this "Tea Party Rabble" has started making noise and they have had plenty of opportunity to view "the other side". They realllly don't like what they see, so they all they can do is hope that there are other people "out there" that don't look, think or act like these "scary" ones.
If a “moderate” has no true convictions that leads them either to the enlightenment of conservatism or the liberal abyss, why would they be compelled to associate themselves to a “movement” related to anything other than their bowels?
