General Motors is going electric, so you can expect to start seeing more and more of its internal combustion engines falling by the wayside in the coming years.
The LS7 crate motor can be purchased with all the components necessary for it to operate in a custom car build. The LS7 crate motor can be purchased with all the components necessary for it to operate in a custom car build. (Chevrolet)
The latest is the monster 7.0-liter V8 that powered the 2006-2013 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, but has also been available as a crate motor for custom car builds.
The LS7 was offered in both its original 505 hp tune with a track-ready dry oil sump design and as a 570 hp wet sump version.

I think you can program a digital sound to go with the rpms.
Our neighbor has a Tesla. Whenever he backs up there is a slight noise (but quiet when he goes forward). I can’t tell if that noise is programed (safety?) or is just the whirring of the gears in reverse for some odd reason.
Just looked it up - could be either one, but I think it is the gears. The backup signal is louder and more electronic sounding (like a UFO in a scify movie).
what was the hate part? my last was a 94
Hey Mark Donohue with Penske Racing drove and won in Trans Am competition with AMC SST Javelins. Had a 1970 myself at one point, strong 390 engine, I just couldn’t find a competent Tranny guy nearby to keep it on the road.
Getting ready to drop a 390 into my 63 F100, you ain’t kidding about the transmissions back then though. Today is a whole diff story thankfully.
“I see Tesla peeps getting 20,000 miles tire life where an equivalent gas car is more like 40,000.”
Lots of Teslas getting 30k.
OTOH, I only got 8k on my previous Mustang rears.
I have a supercharged 392 HEMI 6.2L V8, 750+ HP, in my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with aftermarket 3” Borla Headers & Exhaust, cold air intake, and C2 chip. It’s a rocket sled on “Launch” control setting. 0-60 in 3.7secs; 0-100 in 4.2, pulling ~10g.
General Motors did some PR about an electric "crate motor" with batteries, control electronics, etc. that would be a drop in for hot rods like their existing crate motors but I don't think they have delivered on the PR yet.
“... normal person...” We both do music so...... Normal? Wut’s that? LOL!
Wonder what their plans are for engines in the IMSA Rolex 24-Hour Daytona race?? Don’t think the Acura drivers will worry too much about the Cadillac-powered teams.
Guessing it will soon be renamed, The IMSA Rolex 4-day Race.
I’m have a bitch of a time trying to find someone local to remagnetize my hit and miss’ magneto. I knew this would happen when they stopped offering the pilot flame ignition.
I did that with my 77 landcruiser...was a bit much for the tranny and was always overheating...
“pulling ~10g.”
Typo?
Top Fuelers pull about 5 gs max.
So you need to get to the NHRA race here in Indy!
It was less than an optimal experience, if you catch my drift.
Not blaming the vehicle.
Oooops, should be 2.10; missed the 2. My bad.
My LT1 had a computer controlled MECHANICAL distributor called an opticspark.
They stupidly mounted this ELECTRONIC device under… the water pump. The least amount of water either from a leaky pump or from ground moisture (snow) would fry it.
“The Democrats will force them out of business by making them go totally EV”
I’d kill for that day.
“0-60 in 3.7secs; 0-100 in 4.2”
Check my math. That is 3.7 g from 60 to 100.
Dang. From the company that gave us the 409 Impala Super Sport.
You raise a decent point from a PR standpoint. But I frankly don’t care about racing. That’s probably true of most people.
I’m have a bitch of a time trying to find someone local to remagnetize my hit and miss’ magneto.
Try finding someone to service a 59-73 Ford tractor Select O speed. All the guys who worked on them are in sos heaven.
