The late-blooming 2022 Atlantic Tropical Storm season is making up for lost time. A tropical system has developed in the Central Caribbean Sea. This storm system is forecast to threaten continental U.S. interests next week. While the tropical wave passed south of a key geographic area known as Hebert's Box #1, it will very likely pass through Hebert's Box #2. These boxes are useful as predictors of hurricanes that will strike South Florida. For more information about Hebert's Boxes, see Hebert Box. See graphic below which illustrated the Hebert's Boxes.

But they mostly got just wind. Not much of a surge.
How dare he not be like School Bus Nagin and leave them behind in sub-stnadard buildings.
Surge is the main problem. No house will be spared water damage. Most houses can withstand the wind.
Galveston didn’t have hurricane clips. Steel under tension trumps gravity with frame structures. The V-squared component of moving water diminishes rapidly as surge travels inland, and Galveston didn’t really have much “inland.” There will still be a wall.
Mold, power, and basic survival supply will be primary considerations. The market reactions are anyone’s guess.

Good to know, so probably 10-12 feet of water if it is at the bottom of the 2nd floor.
Thanks! Shortly after I posted to you, Ryan Hall mentioned air speed at 40,000-50,000 levels affect mph moving hurricane on the ground.
Colossally complicated.
BTW: See my post 1766. He continues to report potential super cells creating tornado activity in Orlando and surrounding areas tonight. Under a tornado watch now.
“The preparedness and early warnings issued, along with the overwhelming ways implemented to convey said information in today’s society using all forms of media, likely saved many lives.”
No doubt and thank God!
“An especially snarky reporter” - I could say so much (like covid nursing homes) but I assume DeSantis team moved on to conveying actual helpful info.
Ouch. I hope most people DID evacuate because there may not be much of Fort Myers and Coral Beach left to go back to.
according to a freeper that lives in Cape Coral
most of the neighbors stayed
Specifically new construction with modern codes. They use rebar and concrete filled cinder blocks every so often to keep the walls upright and strap the roof down to said columns.
List of Metro Areas, Cape Coral/Fort Myers is #77, but it’s interesting to see that it’s larger than a lot of other areas you wouldn’t expect.

Winds are picking up a lot here in Seminole County. I expect to lose power pretty soon and am at home in a very sturdy cbc condo built in the 80’s. I don’t have a generator so will conserve my phone charge. Will drop any significant updates and likely not reply.
One thing is giving me a little worry. They’re putting new roofs on here in 2023. So, this summer they tacked on those huge white heavy plastic tarps. I’ve seen a couple of them lift a bit this afternoon. Expecting 60 plus mph sustained winds...so we’ll see...
My prayers for our state, first responders, and governor are ongoing...Godspeed, Florida.
Haines city here. Just south of Disney. Already lost power. Winds horrific. And it’s still 5 hours away
Can’t get Wink a 5:30p. Worried
Oh thank you!!!! We chose our re location here with knowledge and acceptance of the consequences. But it sure is great to know that folks are keeping us in prayer. My sincere thank you. Thank you very much.
Thank you very very much and will do.
Thank you for your update. Stay safe. Operating on battery backup here.
For sure, horrible
