A 17-year-old host of a suburban Memphis restaurant said patrons beat him up and knocked him out over the weekend because they didn't like their table.
What are the details? A group of eight people entered a Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen on North Germantown Parkway in Cordova on Sunday night, WHBQ-TV reported — but things were busy, and there was an hour-long wait. Cordova is about a half-hour east of Memphis.
Latisha Ford, the teen's mother, told WREG-TV that "there were two people that were attacking him. They were hitting him all over the face.”
The victim added to WHBQ that he "blacked out" afterward.
Ford also told WREG that her son "didn’t deserve that. Over a table? When they called me to come up there, he was already on the ground. He was on the floor.”
WREG said Ford took a photo of her son lying on the floor as paramedics worked on him.
“For these people to be twice his size, you know it’s unacceptable, very unacceptable,” Ford noted to WHBQ.
The teen was taken to Baptist Children’s Hospital in non-critical condition, WREG said, adding that Ford said he didn’t wake up until he got to the hospital and is now recovering at home.
“He had a concussion, his face was swollen, and he had a lot of bruises on him. He is really sore. They busted his neck really bad,” Ford added to WREG.
Memphis police told WHBQ the suspects left the restaurant in a large white SUV, and they're still searching for them.
Ford also told WHBQ she isn't happy with how the restaurant handled things: “Corporate called me, and the only thing they asked was, do we need any food? I don’t need any food. I want justice for my son."
She added to WREG that “he’s a minor, you know. This is not the first incident. They say it goes on all the time. They should have had a security guard.”
Ford also told WREG the people who attacked her son took an Apple Watch off his wrist, which was found along the side of Germantown Parkway.
Police told WREG the restaurant has surveillance video of the incident, and the station added that Ford hopes it leads to arrests.
“I just want them to do the right thing and turn themselves in because I want justice for son,” Ford added to WREG. “He doesn’t hurt anybody. ... He makes an honest living. He works for all his money. For somebody to do that to him, that hurts.”
The teen told WHBQ he has a message for his attackers: “I hope they catch you and [you] regret what you did."
Anything else? WHBQ said Cheddar's issued the following statement Tuesday: “We are shocked and saddened by this senseless act of violence against our team member. Violence has no place in our restaurant, and we are cooperating fully with the police investigation. Any further questions should be directed to the Memphis Police Department.”
WREG said anyone with information about the incident can call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
Memphrica?
“Do you need any food?”
Seriously?
“the suspects left the restaurant in a large white SUV” I’m betting a Cadillac Escalade.
Around here, it’s generally best to avoid Cheddar’s.
Our cheddars is nice enough but “from scratch”? No.
I bet.
Diss them at your peril.
I miss civilization.
You never know what you’ve got, until it’s gone.
Comfort food....
Black privilege trumps all.
“They should have had a security guard.”
“They say it goes on all the time. They should have had a security guard.”
...yeah. The baloney sandwich in their holster will do the trick. “Halt! Or I’ll yell halt again”!
It is comfort food if you take comfort in having a coronary.
Yep, probably black on black violence.
White girl, black guy in dreadlocks. Management didn't kick them out?
Indeed, sadly.
Memphrica?
No, almost certainly Aryans. You didn’t read the story? It took place in Germantown.
Whiter girl I suspect.
