Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that she had to kill her dangerous dog, adding that President Joe Biden’s dog “has attacked 24 Secret Service people.”
Partial transcript as follows:
MARGARET BRENNAN: Okay, so you don’t agree with Mr. Trump’s statement there. I want to ask you again about the book. I- I know you know, this question is coming, because there’s been such an enormous backlash about your revelation that you shot and killed a Wirehair Pointer or named Cricket, who was 14 months old. You say in the book, she came from another family that struggled with her aggression, you’d been training her to hunt, she got too excited, ruined the hunt, and then attacked and killed some chickens. I wonder if you have regrets about sharing this story.

I’m going to wager that I’ve had to euthanize kill more animals than all of the people on this forum. I hated the job but at the time it was necessary and yes, it took a toll. There was a study on the people that work at slaughterhouses and the affect on the captive bolt operators experienced. After my Father retired from the military he became a full time butcher, and we used a .22 effectively. This entire Noem firestorm is a ridiculous fiasco that she has brought upon herself with her ignorance of much of the public.

It only takes one major gaffe for a GOPer to be bullied out of the ring. In this case, most folks are animal lovers, or at least animal likers. And, while it may be a traditional rural method of dealing with misfit critters, she has characterized herself as heartless and possible even cruel toward animals. (Like most doggie people, I would have found another owner, or at least tried like heck to do so.)
I have no idea how she gets out of this. She might begin with a mea culpa, learning moment and volunteering at an animal shelter. She should not stick with the defensive route as many of her peeps will not agree and her political foes will never, ever let up on such a highly emotional topic.
She said she hated that dog, and then repeated referred back to killing Cricket as as emblematic of her leadership.
She claims she stared down a World Leader she never met, and said she was sure the little dictator underestimated her.
This woman is unfit.

How is this dog's life anymore or less value than animals we enjoy steak, barbecue ribs, burgers or fried chicken diners?

Farmer girl Noem couldn't figure out why an uncastrated [Hint] goat was ornery and chased children so she killed the uncastrated goat, having to shoot it multiple times because not only is Noem an insipid, tone deaf dolt, she is also a lousy shot. In fact, i’d say at this juncture, she is untrainable.
No different that the animal that killed the last time you had steak dinner or fried chicken.
Someone here a few days ago said she was getting ahead of the story. She isn’t. She’s getting buried by it.
She is now trying to portray Cricket as Cujo.

My cousin's husband had to shoot cats all the time that were a menace to this other animals.
It was no different than setting traps to caught mice that are nuisance.
I doubt there’s many people on here, at all, that disagree with you that animals and pets need to be euthanized at times for various reasons. I believe the bad taste this woman is leaving in most people’s mouths is her overflowing arrogance and tone deafness to brag about it, tout it, crow about it, etc., when the situation is completely GRAY that the dog needed to be killed and not just trained or given to someone else.
There ARE clear circumstances of animal’s time coming to an end and this isn’t one of them and her behavior about it is stomach churning.
What is insanity is elevating any animal life to the same level as human life or pretending a dog is any greater form of life than a cow, pig, chicken or turkey that 95% of Americans eat weekly.
She took it in because the previous owner said it was dangerous.
She was going to try to train it to not be vicious. Didn’t work.
I live in the country. I would have done the same thing. Dogs that kill livestock can’t be fixed. Might kill a neighbors kid.
