The Democrats pulled this dirty trick (of course it's only a "dirty trick" when Republicans do it) successfully in Kansas in 2018. They were successful in keeping their guy on the ballot, but the voters weren't fooled.

2018 U.S. House Election Results for Kansas District 04

Check the Republican primary results at the bottom of the page. Although it shows the "other" Ron Estes with a middle initial, he did not appear on the ballot that way.

“(3) A name similar to that of an incumbent seeking reelection to the same office with intent to confuse and mislead the electors by taking advantage of the public reputation of the incumbent.”

I don’t think Bob Ferguson was attempting to confuse or mislead. I certainly don’t think Mrs. Ferguson was trying to confuse or mislead either when she, many years ago, named her son Bob.

The challenger should just run as “the real Bob Ferguson.”

RE: surly only one of them received endorsement from their party... right?

That old trick was around when I was a kid. Detroit voters would look at a long mayor’s race primary ballot with four or five people each named Young or Coleman. People paid to sign up to run. Coleman Young won, though. He said: “A lot of white people don’t like me as mayor. To them I say, get across Eight Mile Road and leave Detroit.”

Book quote:
By 1980, whites largely had abandoned the inner city of Detroit. Be
tween 1970 and 1980 alone, more than 310,000 white city residents fled for the suburbs, and the percentage of blacks in Detroit rose from 43.7 to 67.1.2 By 1982, Detroit had lost an additional 63,776 residents—mostly white—giving the Motor City one of the highest African American populations in the urban North.

And don’t call me surly.😉

Racist homie Coleman Young was also the guy who opposed gun control in the feral ghettos of Detroit, because without guns in their hands, “city blacks would have no protection against marauding white suburbanites”.

Yes, really.

And that's not even counting Jay Garrick, Bart Allen and Wally West.

when the idiots in my state of Washington voted Fergusen in, it was with him never ever having been in a trial...imagine an attorney general with no trial experience...

then again, voting is nonexistent in this state.

Lol! I remember an Eddie Murphy comedy back in the 1990’s with a similar premise. Basically, Murphy is conman and when some congressman who has been reelected for the last 40 years dies, Murphy gets the idea to change his name to the deceased congressman’s and run for the seat on the theory that voters will just recognize the name they’ve been voting for their entire life and vote for it. He even reuses the exact same signage as the deceased congressman and manages to win.

the state Supreme Court is 100% Democrat,

And recall - most of Thurston County superior court judges are Dimslee appointees. Thurston County is where trials involving the State are held. Very incestuous.

Last summer I was called for jury duty in Thurston County. The judge asked if any prospective jurors wished to be excused. I raised my hand. When asked why, I said the case involved L&I and when looking her up (the judge), I saw that she had once been counsel for L&I from the state A.G.s office. I had doubts of her impartiality. I was excused.

This the same tactic created by Joseph P. Kennedy to twist the election of his son John F. Kennedy's first election to the 1946 Massachusetts's 11th congressional district.

Running against JFK was a man named Joseph Russo. Joe Kennedy hired a plumber also named Joseph Russo (with a different middle name) to run, confusing the voters. The plumber had no interest in running or winning, but papa Joe paid him enough.

This tactic split a vote against John F. Kennedy, insuring his winning his first election using fraud.
