If you read the article his Dad passed away when he was five. And let me tell you something. He got out of control because the people of authority are stupid and rigid. He was talking to his Mother outside the building on his lunch hour in Iraq. According to the article he told the teacher what was going on and when she caused the call to be disconnected he got frustrated. I DON'T BLAME HIM. Then, when the phone rang again and they wouldn't let him answer, that's when he used profanity. SO WOULD I. It's called common sense, and the education system has NONE OF IT.

How do you know that? There's nothing in the article about the teacher being too rigid. The teacher may have asked nicely and several times to end the call....we don't know.

....he told the teacher what was going on and when she caused the call to be disconnected...

The teacher caused the call to be disconnected by trying to take the phone away from him. They already knew that his mother is in Iraq, and she only calls once a month. Now that they have a ton of bad publicity they want to make a deal with him.

Public schools are turning into prisons with morons in charge.

Wow! I actually agree with Hildy! Will wonders never cease.

Too many parents are far too willing to hand over the raising
of their children to school authorities. Here in Oklahoma
the law states that if a child is enrolled in the public school system,
the school has greater authority than the parents
over the well being of the student.

If my two sons were enrolled in the school system and they got into a fight
with each other in their bedroom in my home on a Sunday afternoon,
the school had the authority to suspend or expell them

We need to take back our schools from Zero tolerance liberals
or at least take back our kids from these schools.

Thank you for your reply but this child needs to be KILLED. The new FReepers will have nothing to do with independent thought and insolence like this. He should be put in a religious re-education center where he can be properly "oriented".

Keep abreast of the changes "brother" or "sister" as may be the fact.

Seriously thanks for the well thought out answer. I agree.

Mom should have known better than to call during school hours. Son should have known better than to get wild and swear at a school official.

Having been deployed I can say plainly that it is the responsibility of the service member to know the times back home and respect the rules. Any kid of mine would have had ME to worry about for popping off to the Principal, especially if he used profanity - suspension would have looked like vacation when I was done.

Supporting the troops does NOT mean putting up with poor behavior from family members of said troops. The school is under NO obligation to bend their rules just because Mom is calling from Iraq instead of WalMart. It's part of the job. Deal with it.

So Im not responsible for my actions? Ya mean that if someone pisses me off I can do what ever I feel like doing in retaliation? That is bogus! I feel for the kid, but he lost control and is paying the piper. Prayers for him and his mom.

I'm with you. I hated the authority crap in high school and had some similar reactions to it on a couple occasions. My reactions were not about something this important. The school figure that reached for the phone would have been smacked down if that was me in this guy's shoes.

You are so right. Anyone of us would get angry and upset to have such an important call interrupted. DAMN...the person that got him suspended. I have tried calling the school and they don't answer their telephone..COWARDS!!!
I want to give this boy a calling card to call his Mom and I trust that some freepers in the area are all over this.

My daughter was in Iraq for a year, 2003-04. Her company allowed to to take her laptop, so we were able to communicate fairly regularly. It was a real blessing that probably saved our sanity. Phones were and still are very hard to access.
This young man has had a few too many traumatizing experiences in his young life. He vented his frustration. 20/20 hindsight, he probably could have gone to the Spencer High administration, explained and asked for an exception to the rule. But haven't we all been blindsided by the unexpected? Now added to his frustrations is the lack of trust in his school. Hu-ah, Spencer.
