Note how the phony man/phony woman business has polluted our vocabulary. Before this, the sentence would have said something like, “he claimed to be a widower.”

That said, under current rules, if he identified as a widower, then he really was a widower, his wife still being alive notwithstanding.

Here in Jurassic park, where 1/3rd of the residents are single women, widowers are fresh meat. Women line up around the block with casseroles for a good catch. Because he posed as a widower is not proof positive he killed his wife. To me, it is more likely that the boat people, using two guns, killed Alex Murdaugh’s wife and son.
