Secret Service ‘Must Provide Protection’ to Trump If He’s Jailed: Spokesperson
Epoch Times ^ | 5/8/24 | Jack Phillips

The U.S. Secret Service reiterated that it “must provide protection” to former presidents amid speculation that President Donald Trump could be jailed by a New York judge for violating his gag order.

On Monday, Judge Juan Merchan told the former president that if he continues to violate a gag order for speaking about witnesses and other individuals connected to the trial, he could face a jail term.

In response to questions about how the Secret Service would respond if President Trump were jailed, a spokesperson for the agency told The Epoch Times Tuesday that “under federal law, the United States Secret Service must provide protection for current government leaders, former Presidents and First Ladies, visiting heads of state and other individuals designated by the President of the United States.”

The statement didn’t go into specifics about how it would look like. The spokesperson did not respond to a question about whether a Secret Service agent could be stationed in a jail cell along with the former president.

True, unless times change....

Newsweek (among dozens of sources) April 19, 2024

A prominent House Democrat has introduced new legislation that would strip felons of Secret Service protection, specifically mentioning former President Donald Trump in case he’s convicted in one or more of his criminal trials.

Mississippi Representative Bennie Thompson, ranking member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, is bringing forth the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable Former Protectees Act—or the DISGRACED Act—which would terminate Secret Service protection for individuals convicted of either state or local felonies.

The U.S. Secret Service reiterated that it “must provide protection” to former presidents...

They deny Trump's 1st Amendment right, so I have no doubt that they will deny Trump a right to Secret Service protection.

He should vet and hire and pay for his own protection, should lockup ever really occur. Today’s FBI has been corrupted. Not all, but too many. Big Jim Comey had a lot to do with it being made acceptable.

Even if they don’t, he will get even better protection from the most bad ass guys in the prison. There’s no way you’ll get through them. Rules in prison are very different. They’ll love Donald Trump like no other.

If they put Trump in jail, somebody besides Trump might need protection.

That would be a very dangerous move. House arrest, ok.

Rikers......seriously?????

I fully agree with you. But yeah, if they put Trump in Rikers, or sent him to a state prison, You can rest assured he would be an absolute God to the prisoners.
Something unpredictable would happen. There would probably be a truce among the gangs as they teamed up solely to protect Trump. Both of the points of pride, and for straight up self interest. Imagine the streetcred, and the helping hand for their family, if a billionaire who was going to be president felt gratitude towards them.

One thing I know for certain, it won’t go the way the oppressors think it would. And it will propel him to even greater heights. He would probably be safer without Secret Service, and instead have the locals protect him.

Before he was president, more than 200 rap songs mention to Donald Trump has something to aspire to. I can’t wait to see Merchan pop a critical vessel when the prisoners love him.
If they lock him up, he may actually carry the black vote in America by a majority.

And made it crystal clear that he's an evil SOB who hopes Trump gets murdered.

The corrupt traitors in D.C. want to put Trump in one of their cages?

Do it!

If this bill specifically mentions Trump, is that not a “Bill of Attainder” ?

I'm assuming they pretended to make it about any President who is convicted of a felony, not just Trump. But he might as well just say that it just for presidents who are convicted after being investigated for insurrection and investigated for collusion with the Russians and also lived most of his life in NYC but moved to florida. We know what he really wants.

This guy wants Trump dead and he's trying to make it happen. If it does, he's as culpable as whoever does the deed.

Until Congress changes the Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012.

So how many House members do they need to blackmail in order to approve, miss the vote, or abstain?

Can Mayorkas side-step the law by precedent of federal employees losing government benefits once convicted of a felon?

“He should vet and hire and pay for his own protection, should lockup ever really occur.”

They wouldn’t allow private security into the premises. Try to take your own bodyguard into jail with you.

In my many rounds with liberals over various development projects (since the seventies), I was jailed on a equally bs contempt order by a liberal judge. I’m a nobody and my lawyers got me out on a habeas corpus ruling the next day.

If Trump gets sentenced to jail by Juan the marxist, socialist, idiot, another court will stay the order pending appeal and that will be that.

Blackmail, Bribe, or Extort. They have several arrows in their quiver. I suspect there are very few Reps upon which one or the other can’t be used.
