After 12 years of marriage and less than two years into his congressional career, Georgia Republican Rep. Rich McCormick has filed for divorce from his oncologist wife Dr. Debra Miller. Capitol Hill insiders say McCormick has often been seen acting overly friendly toward a female Republican member of the House Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas.

Why is this news?
I’m not upset by the article, just wondering why we should know about the private life of this Republican Congressman?
America is eyeballs deep in crisis right now. Might be nice for our congressman to be busy doing something other than humping each other outside of marriage. Especially since Republicans are supposedly an alternative to the moral cesspool the Democrats bring to the table

I understand what you’re saying. That was the traditional view of what being a conservative used to mean, you walked what you talked. Today’s conservatives has sort of given up that moral high ground, in favor of independent lifestyles and motivations.
We are far less monolithic as conservatives now than we were during Ronald Reagan or William Buckley’s day. Some republicans, while they may not say they are
‘pro-abortion’, they have become ‘open to letting the mother chose’. The main reason for flexibility? It’s often the only way to get votes from certain demographics. That topic is all certain voters really care about.
The private life of this Republican has become very public, and that hurts our side, and potentially threatens our slim majority.
Like it or not, the daily mail seems to get the story right.

Good point. I’m just wishing for the days when it might be possible to differentiate a republican from a Democrat. I wish they could just knock off their bull crap until the election in November.

Why am I not surprised?
Since she(Van Duyne) is divorced, she is a single woman-and McCormick has apparently been separated for several months and both he and his wife have made legal moves to end the marriage-what is all the fuss about? It is not like either one of them is wrecking a happy home with flowers, a picket fence, etc. Thanks to Bill Clinton, an affair is a resume-enhancer for McCormick, anyway-and since Van Duyne has been single for several years, she isn’t going to be branded with a scarlet letter, either. No matter what any of us may think-it is just another DC semi-scandal...
