Vice President Kamala Harris has joked about returning to California to run for governor in 2026 when incumbent Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) ends his second and final term.
Politico reported on Thursday, in an overview of potential gubernatorial candidates, that the former California Attorney General and U.S. Senator could make a run:

She's the most unpopular VP in history which wouldn't stop her from winning California. Chicago is totally corrupt and South Carolina - she could run in those places and win too.
Maybe CNN could arrange for her to do some 'debates' (for her) - and after winning the debates she could 'help the homeless' or whatever it is democrats promise to do...

Running her in CA would be te firt time rat voters actully paused before deciding to pull the rat lever. They would need to print a few million extra ballots to submit in the bay and LA areas.

I would love to hear Kamala in a relaxed and honest state, describe all the talent and skills she brings to the world, she must have a vision of herself and her capabilities that would be hilarious to hear.
The indispensable woman running for this office and that one, flying here and there, now perhaps needed to take over and fix California, perhaps the Presidency.
I would sure love to be sitting across a dinner table with her as we open our 4th bottle of wine and she drops all modesty and really opens up on what a fixer and exceptional leader she is.
If this theory is correct, that Kamala is preparing to hand the baton to some other, for the VP role, it would be interesting to know who was directed to tell this to her?
Maybe it was Douglas Emhoff, aka First Gentleman who was used to get this message directly to the Vice President that her time in the Sun is fast coming to a close, one way or another. She couldn’t ‘fire’ her husband, and she has little to gain by divorcing him. If it happened this way, she probably gave him the Silent Treatment for a day or so.
