FULLERTON, California - A man will serve 45 days in jail after pleading guilty to threatening a Sikh couple with a baseball bat three days after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Authorities said Jason Fulkerson, 31, confronted Gurcharan Singh and his wife as they were selling ice cream from a truck near Fulkerson's southern California home on Sept. 14

"He basically approached (the couple) after 9-11 and told them to leave the neighborhood," said Deputy District Attorney Mike Fell. "When they didn't, he returned with a baseball bat."

Fulkerson, who has apologized for the act, was placed on two years' probation and must complete 100 hours of community service.

Unlike many of the countries that bi**hed and moaned about hate crimes against minorities in the U.S. after Sept. 11, such crimes actually get prosecuted in this country - this article is proof.

The slob that killed the Sikh gas station owner in Arizona will end up in the state pen at Florence, Arizona, IMHO.
I doubt he'll get the death penalty but in that prison life is worse.

I don't know why my fellow Caucasian Americans have trouble distinguishing between Sikhs and Muslims.

Maybe I've lived in central NJ too long but for my fellow freepers not as well acquainted:

There is a great deal of variation however in Muslim dress from different countries.  Sikhs are much more consistent.

You know what, I live in Central Jersey too and I never see Muslim men with turbans.. skullcaps, yes.. that thing Pakistani men wear, yes.. but never an actual turban..

I met a Sikh named Jot Singh Kalsa years ago. His business was the fabrication and sale of fine khirpans (knives).
I got to know him and can say I've yet to meet a man that could match his integrity and honor. I was glad to know him.
He made some damn fine blades too.

You're right of course which makes me wonder even more why people have such confusion.  I think there was a Sikh gas station owner in Metuchen that had been there for years and still got some grief from passing motorists. 

I do see a lot of women wearing the hijab though. 

I can remember living in Washington, DC in the 80's and going to the clubs there.  Lots of Arabic guys were more like "wild and crazy guys" wearing expensive watches and ogling the scantily clad women.  Stereotyping I suppose but it was going on pretty consistently at one of my hangouts.

Foreign students from Muslim countries back in college were the most horniest bunch you'd ever meet.. horny and obscenely wealthy.. Muslim kids who went to school here and had part-time jobs to pay their way through college were much more grounded, IMO...

He was cut some slack -- he was given probation and community service instead of having his ass thrown in jail. He got off lightly.

The Sikhs have been fighting Islam for centuries.

In this day and age, it would behoove us to know the diffeence between our friends and our enemies. This adolescent punk wanna-get-some mentality merely looks for excuses to be obnoxious and poisonous, and needs to be stomped, hard.

Threatening a man and a WOMAN is not how southern gentlemen, nor any gentleman acts, and no, he shouldn't have been cut any slack just because it was three days after the attacks and because he was too stupid to know that it is the job of his sheriff to deal with law enforcement, not his job to be a vigilante with a baseball bat. If the man knew anything about the constitution he probably thinks he supports, he would know very well that he had no authority to threaten people whose great 'sin' was working hard, selling ice cream, and looking like 'furriners.'

He ended up getting off very lightly and I think this is because even he realized what an sick ignorant jackxxx he was. He decided to mature a little bit instead of contining the tradition, and I hope he was sincere in his apologies so that their forgiveness, and society's, will be justified.

So easy for you guys to put down this man some 10 months after we were attacked......you've had alot of time to adjust and see the small difference between the 2 turbans.

This man saw a towel head in his neighborhood 3 days after the attacks and asked them to leave before he threatned them. He had the gonads to at least try to protect his neighborhood from what he saw as a threat,unlike some who just complain on a forum.
