I have to wonder if the validity of such straw polls would be questioned in any way if Rick Perry or Mitt Romney had won this Florida straw poll.

Go Herman Cain!

Oh, and our corrupt, bully of an Hernando county REC chair, Blaise Ingolglia, was quoted in the article:
From the article:
Blaise Ingolglia, the co-chair of the organization putting on the "Presidency 5" event, said this, according to NBC's "First Read":
Iowa is a test of the organizational strength. Iowa basically is a paid straw poll. ... This is actually more of a true representation of how the voters are going to vote in Florida.
Ingolglia wasn't alone. Alex Patton, a Florida GOP consultant and pollster, said the events in the Sunshine State last week — the Thursday debate and the Saturday straw poll — would "separate out the wheat from the chaff."

I'm pretty sure those quotes are from September 22, before the straw poll. I've heard some establishment types trying to walk back from that since Hermain Cain's victory Saturday.

"Romney's incredible 3 to 1 devastating loss to Herman Cain
proves nothing. To FOX News, me, Ailes and McGinniss,
Milt Romney will remain ... forever ... as YOUR only leading candidate.

The tactic being used against Mr. Cain is to ignore and marginalize him. If he picks up some momentum from Florida and from the debates he will be a force to be reckoned with. In that case I don't think the Democrats or his competitors in the Republican party have figured out any effective tactic. They have floated a trial balloon attacking his views about Muslims, but being tough on Muslims is seen as a positive by a huge majority of Americans.

Sarah Palin has also said that she is very fond of him... the closest she has come to endorsing any candidate. To be honest up until a few days ago I had not paid much attention to him. He has a lot of depth. I think that because of his ability to split the black vote, strong Tea Party support, and his very appealing persona that he has a great chance to give Obama the boot.

Article is a two-fer for the “other” candidates. It takes down Perry for NOT winning, while devaluing Cain’s “win” by suggesting nobody really supported him.

Being NPR, they probably figure this means we all want Chris Cristie to enter the race.
