Folks, I propose that we start a grass roots movement to get one simple constitutional amendment passed:

Congress shall not tax the income of any person, business or entity at a rate greater than 25% in part or in total.

I know this wont fly through congress so we will have to get it through the states first. Any ideas on how to get this started.

Why not make that 10%.

Why not pay taxes the same day we vote (instead of 6 months later). Instead of withholding, we need to have people write Uncle Sam a check every month. That should do it.

how bout if we go to: if you want it, buy it yourself.

the premise that the government has the power to cnange individuals is false.

your suggestion is a step in that direction. unfortunately, it seems incrementalism is a method which escapes detection by we humans, and, frogs too.

Repeal the unratified sixteenth amendment. Then there would be no further confusion.

A correct interpretation of the Constitution is all that is needed. Since about 80 percent of what the federal government does is a violation of the Commerce Clause, Due Process, and fundamental property rights- Four more Clarence Thomas clones appointed to the SC- and taxes won't be higher than 10 percent.

Sorry sir, I cannot agree with your proposal. I'm in favor of a 15% national consumption tax with all medicine, food and clothing being tax exempt.

You can add general welfare abuses in there also.

Your idea is fine with me, but it's not a tax revolt. When we quit paying our taxes that's a tax revolt, the founding fathers also had a "tax revolt".

Besides, after we get it down to 25% for the Feds, what am I going to do about my State money grabbers and my local mini-tyrants?

We all just got finished working for the government last month if you combine it all. Every day you worked this year up until last week was for politicians and sluggards. Every single day you woke to an alarm, sweated, put up with aggravation and came home tired ..... was all for the government. The rest of the year is for you now, you have permission to enjoy it just don't forget your slave status.

If you talk about a "tax revolt" let's have a real tax revolt, as the pigs in DC couldn't give 2 craps about our letters or emails.

I agree, but lets make it a national sales tax so that everyone pays his fair share.

Statement of Del Threadgill, Vice President of Taxes, J.C. Penney Company, Dallas, TX,

"As for Fairness, it is hard to understand why a tax system that determines a person's contribution to the cost of government based on his ability to pay is less fair than a system that is based on what he spends."

Get real. Don't you know Michael Moore told Bill O'Reilly tonight we should be paying 70% of our income in taxes. I think O'Reilly is weakening his stance in his richness.

Why not just repeal the 16th amendment? We got along for 150 years without a (legal) income tax. We could do it again. About 80% of the stuff they spend it on has no Constitutional justification anyway. (Defense budget, the prime reason for existance of the federal government, is (2000 budget I believe) about 15% of total federal outlays, down from nearly 50% in 1960, fraction of national economy spent on defense is lower than anytime since before the buildup to WW-II.

I like your idea better. Yup! 10% on voting day. Of course that will likely cut way down on the already abysmal voter turnout d:^(

Sorry,You have misread the true meaning of the 16th Amendment,The 16th Amendment never granted "ANY" new powers of taxation as the SC has ruled many times over.Freepers, let us get with the program on these issues.Everyone needs to read the record when congress voted on this issue.I have read it over a 100 times and I think "con"gress needs to read it 1000 times for it to SINK in.Congress has "NO POWER" in the sovereign states.Stand up or be stood on folks.
