Has Mondale lost his memmory or does he think Minnesotans are that Gullible?

Has anyone else noticed the bizarre statements in the last few day by Mondale? The inconsistencies and reversals? Is he that out of touch or does he have that much contempt for the Minnesota voters?
When he announced his canidacy (not the infamous hate-fest) but the next day, reporters asked him if he was going to debate Coleman friday night he answered that his aides working on that. They asked him three times in three different ways and he finally said yes, my aides are working out those details.
3 hours later he said that he was not going to debate Coleman on Friday night because he only had five days to campaign and he felt that it was much more important to hold town meetings and find out what is important to Minnesotans.
3 hours later, at his first campaign rally when asked if he felt that he could get up to speed in five days, he said I live in Minnesota and I know what is important to Minnesotans.
Yesterday he chastised the Republicans for running negative ads, when none had been run by the Republican party as attack ads against Coleman were being aired on Television.
Is he senile or does he think Minnesotans can't put two and two together and come up with four? Don't cha know.

The Democrats are counting on voters' stupidity. How else are they elected???
As far as Mondale goes, please someone . . . do an intervention on those eyeglasses. Talk about Stuck in the Seventies!
He looks like an owl--a very ugly owl.

Actually, this is standard Democrat practice, just to say whatever you think the voters would like to hear, and especially what will influence the more naive and unconscious voters not to vote for your opponent.
In particular, accusing your opponent of running negative attack ads is standard, because for some reason naive voters think that's a dreadful thing to do--regardless of whether the ads are true or false, a distinction many people don't seem to understand.
As you say, Coleman hadn't been running any ads at all, let alone negative ones. But that doesn't matter. The average naive voter will hear "Coleman . . . negative . . . ads" and that will be enough for them. They will assume that Coleman ran such ads if an old guy like Mondale says so, but maybe they just didn't happen to hear them. And of course the media will never reveal the truth.
Intelligent voters would see through this ploy. But then, they wouldn't be voting for Mondale anyway.

Rats are sheeple, koolaid drinkers...they can't think for themselves and will vote for anyone with a D after their name.

Is he that out of touch or does he have that much contempt for the Minnesota voters? Yes.

Yesterday he chastised the Republicans for running negative ads If you repeat a lie over and over it becomes truth-viola! Clintonism at it's finest.

I saw a clip of Wally talking about touring instead of debating. He is old, as in "not sharp." He appears to be drawing on his experiences of 20-25 years ago. I wouldn't want to be represented by such a person. This is TODAY.

The Democrats are counting on voters' stupidity...this is a sure bet. I cannot believe how pervasive ignorance and incompetence are these days. From elementary school text books to media publications errors abound. Just talk to an average high school graduate and then be very very afraid.

I believe he thinks Minnesotans *are* that gullible, and that with the complicity of the major media, he can pull it off.
I mean, let's look at the guy's record. A party hack who never ran for anything, in 1960 he was appointed to fill a vacancy in the state Attorney General's office.
In 1964, he was appointed to take Hubert Humphrey's seat in the U.S. Senate -- where he did win re-election twice, I'll grant him that. (But don't get me started on his record as a senator.)
In 1976 he made an abortive run for president, only to drop out early and get picked at the convention to be the northern balance to Jimmy Carter. (But don't get me started on the glorious years of the Carter presidency.)
In 1984 he ran for president and was beaten like a baby seal. The only region he took by a large margin was Washington D.C. He came within 4,000 votes of losing in Minnesota. (Ask Al Gore how it feels to lose your home state.)
In 199x he was appointed Ambassador to Japan, where his most notable accomplishment was to be the American point man in a bribery and corruption scandal so odious that even the Indonesian government repudiated the deal.
Now, today, he sita on the Board of Directors of United Health, where his stock options alone are worth more than $6M. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Northwest Airlines, which received $230M in Federal bailout money in the last year and *still* laid off more than 10,000 mostly union employees.
Walter Mondale has made it his life's work to be the consummate well-connected political insider, riding in the draft of better men and knowing whose to kiss and when. He has won exactly three elections in his entire career. And yet he and the DFL suddenly think that we'll believe that he is the man to carry on Wellstone's legacy (such as it is) and "fight for the little guy?!"
Do they think we're idiots?!?!

Yes to both...and both are probably true.

I wouldn't want to be represented by such a person. They won't be. Mondale is just there for the election. Soon after he will be replaced with someone they hope can hang onto the job for awhile. Another typical, as of late, Democrat ploy.

I live in New Jersey ( please, keep the laughter down ) . How about if all you good Minnesota citizens and the citizens of NJ bond together & form a support group. We could hold a collective "group hug".....we could have a telethon.....we could raise money.....and we could use the money to move to other neighboring states......How about it?

Good post, nice points.

Like everyone else in Minesota I am more than familiar with Senator Mondale. He surely seems different. Not only is he having trouble making contact over the air waves (he was always a master at this), but he seems generally to be vague and weak in both appearance and diction.
I note he had a retinal hemorrhage; however, his physician has given him a glowing recommendation. Hopefully, the doctor obtained either a computed tomography (CT) of the head or a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to rule out vascular lesions of the head. One of the worst things that can happen to old people like Senator Mondale and myself is that we have little strokes and in a step-wise progression develop a Vascular Dementia.
No one could diagnose any disorder of the Senator's from afar, but his appearance and seeming vagueness and detachment suggest someone should take a close look. My guess is he is already on Coumadin or some other blood thinner. I imagine it will be hard to confirm or deny this, but surely if he is on a blood thinner some aprehension would be justified.

Consider this. When Walter Mondale was last in the Senate:
- Constituents couldn't send him email, because Al Gore hadn't invented the Internet yet.
- However, you could send him a letter -- for 13 cents.
- Telephones had rotary dials.
- John Travolta was starring as high-school student Vinny Barbarino in "Welcome Back Kotter"
- "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was a prime-time sitcom.
- The nation was awash in Bicentennial mania.
- Saigon had fallen to the North Vietnamese just a year before.
- O.J. Simpson was just a running back for the Buffalo Bills.
- Fran Tarkenton was the Vikings starting quarterback.
- Randy Moss wasn't born yet.
- George Lucas was best known for "American Graffiti."
- Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were still tinkering in the garage and hadn't invented the Apple I yet.
- A new home in a nice neighborhood cost $48,000.

I'm advocating secession. Start with the Michigan U.P., split Wisconsin north of Dells, add in Minnesota north of North Oaks, and we'd have a heck of a nice state. Of course, we'd have to blow the Wisconsin river bridge and rearm Fort Mackinac. But you and any other political refugees from Out East would be welcome.

I like it....politcal asylum......if the bridge is out, y'all will need boats......lots of boats......what a photo op! Minnesota refugees struggling through the water to land on the safe shores of....ummm...how about a name?
We also have a river....the northwest and southern parts of our state are great ( lots of vineyards - I've been liberally partaking of their product lately ) . We could also get boats....lots of boats.....HMMMMMMM....I think I see a plan shaping up here.
How about a name contest? "New Minnie" ( nope - sounds like we all need to wear hats with ears)..."MinneJersey" ( too diminutive ) ......"New Sota" ( sounds a bit "ethnic" ) ....
