Increasingly, even Green card holders are getting very angry about this. I had someone in this category tell me a couple of days ago that they couldn't believe how liberal the US was regarding outsourcing, free and unfair trade, as well as immigration. Apparently, some expats living here are organizing to make these things bigger issues. They know the risks of these things, and are trying to get us to wake up before its too late.

Exporting money?

You idiot!

That has nothing to do with payment for services rendered, or goods sold.

"Goods sold": letter of credit, sight draft, check, wire transfer, or cash...I've LEGALLY carried every one of those instruments PERSONALLY out of the country.

"Services rendered": letter of credit, checks, wire transfers, or cash...I've been paid by every one of those means PERSONALLY and LEGALLY while doing business in Jamaica, and I've carried or wired the money home.

One last thing regarding your ignorant statement about Jamaica:

Jamaica is famous for only a few things, Beautiful tropical beaches, some nice hotels, the excellent Blue Mountain Coffee, Pickapper Pepper Sauce, and Maryjuana."

There's banking to be done in Jamaica, there are schools to be maintained, hospitals, nursing homes, and hospices to be designed, built, and maintained, real estate to be developed, there is a great deal of trade with neighboring Islands, there is an entire socioeconomic infrastructure in Jamaica that only a moron could possibly not see.

Then again, you could not figure out how to get your money out of there legally...

844 - ""Goods sold": letter of credit, sight draft, check, wire transfer, or cash...I've LEGALLY carried every one of those instruments PERSONALLY out of the country."

So, you entered the country, and declared the amount of money you brought in, and then left with thousands more than you brought in, and you decleared that you were taking it out of the country, and signed your declaration?

Many countries confiscate any excess money at the border. I have had it done.

Do you import stuff into this country also without paying duty?

"So, you entered the country, and declared the amount of money you brought in"

Never been asked how much money I was bringing in at any point of entry anywhere in the Caribbean, Central or South America.

"...and then left with thousands more than you brought in, and you decleared that you were taking it out of the country, and signed your declaration?

Sometimes.

If the amount was too large, I stopped by Barclays and made a transaction there.

And I dutifully declared every single bottle of Appleton State I ever brought home from there.

Where do you usually stay in Kingston?

The mechanics are left to others, so I am not up to speed on whether we pay duties on everything we import. I am sure that we do.

this is getting entirely too personal. When we went to Jamaica, we would normally stay with family members around the island, not in hotels, and particularly in Kingston. We did stay once in hotels in Negril and in Montego Bay. But normally with family in Clarendon and Kingston. Got Jamaican rates if my wife checked in, and American rates if I checked in. Biiiiig difference.

Lawyers said - no money out, not much anyway. So, I could invest money, and work my tail off, but had to stay there to enjoy it.

Don't go there anymore since my wife died. Perhaps things have changed.

Enough.
