...he did it in order to elicit an emotional response. You think? Look at this thread ;-)
It's difficult to have a rational discussion about immigration law since it turns into an emotional debate very quickly.

Great solution Luis. Let's abolish the welfare state. That will keep out those pesky ants. That should happen some time around when hell freezes over.
I wonder why you keep supporting the expansion of the welfare state in the meantime, like the Medicare expansion. Could it be that your criticisms of the welfare state are dishonest?

Ah Joey.
I whooped your sorry ass again...you can't address the issue, can you?
All you have to do is tell me how the hijackers having received driver's licenses prior to their visas having expired, is germane to Jeb's support of a plan to issue licenses to illegal aliens.
Come on Bubba, dazzle me with your explanation.

I stand corrected. The Miami Herald has the story:
Governor endorses illegal-alien driving bill as pointed out by OXENinFLA in the Florida Messages board.
"Saying rigorous screening standards would ensure recipients ''won't be terrorists,'' Gov. Jeb Bush on Monday strongly endorsed issuing state driver's licenses to both illegal immigrants and foreign nationals who make Florida home for part of the year." ...
"Illegal immigrants wishing to obtain the licenses would have to submit to be cleared by background checks both in Florida and in their home countries. The state would rely on consular officials to sign off on background checks from abroad."
The good news is my state senator (Haridopolos) is against it. Sorry Jeb, if you know they are illegal, then you and the State have a duty to me and my fellow citizens to arrest them and turn them over to INS for deportation. If that isn't the law, then it should be. I'll support you 100% with a well-managed guest worker program and with an asylum policy better than "wet-foot/dry-foot" but not on illegals. No way. As someone said earlier, if the plan is to have the handcuffs ready after the license picture is snapped, fine.
To the idiots attacking Luis, be careful, your ignorance is showing. There are a few people trying to have a reasoned discourse on this important subject. Why not stop reacting like emotional RATs and try using some logic?

But Bush's plan, and the fact that the hijackers had driver's licenses are not connected in any way because the hijackers were not illegal aliens at the time they were issued the licenses.More leftist apologys!
THEY HYJACKERS WERE IN THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY WHEN THEY SLAUGHTERED THOUSANDS OF OUR AMERICAN BROTHERS.
THE HYJACKERS WERE HOLDING DRIVERS LICENSES THAT WERE NO LONGER VALID WHEN THEY BRUTALLY MURDERED OUR PEOPLE
THE TERRORIST WERE IN THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY WHEN THEY MURDERED OUR PEOPLE.
THE HIJACKERS WERE HOLDING DRIVERS LICENSES THAT WERE COMPLETELY ILLEGITIMATE AND FRAUDULENT WHEN THEY BRUTALLY MURDERED OUR PEOPLE
What don't you get about this?

I supported the Medicare expansion?
"By a substantial 64% to 27% margin, voters today favor adding a voluntary prescription drug benefit to Medicare coverage. This consensus is quite broad-based, with voters under 35 expressing just as much support (66% favor) as seniors (66%), and Republicans registering nearly as much support (65%) as Democrats (68%)." -- Source
I recognized the inevitability of the expansion in Medicare...anyone who doesn't have their head shoved in the sand (or elsewhere) can see that. So I argued that if you can't stop it, then you must control it to whatever extent you can.
I thought you could read?
I see that you are critical of the details of my plan to solve the issue of illegal immigration...I guess you've conceded the fact that I do believe in controlling immigration, and I advocate a plan for reducing the number of illegal aliens in the country.
Now, post a link to your plan.

Address the point Joey, quit dodging.
What does the fact that the hijackers got driver's licenses while they were here legally have to do with issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens?
Even you should be able to answer that simple a question.

Any illegal alien that tries to obtain a driver's license should be detained on the spot and deported.
Simple and to the point.

Gov. Jeb Bush favors giving illegal immigrants driver's licenses, as long as there are security measures to weed out criminals.
Ye Gads! They are already CRIMINALS!

Thanks for the Miami Herald link:
Haridopolos on Monday said he had no problem giving licenses to foreign nationals who live in Florida part of the time -- provided they had the necessary visas or other immigration documents
Just like the 9-11 attackers who had the necessary visas at the time they obtained Florida drivers' licenses.
Our first line of defense should be the consular officers on US embassies overseas. Unfortunately, several of the 9-11 attackers were issued visas without even filling out the proper paperwork.

I am sick and tired of this Republican Hypocrisy!!!
It's glaring!

I disagree with Bush supporting the notion of issuing driver's licenses to illegal aliens Joe, have said so many times on this thread, I've even said so directly to you.
I'll still work to elect Bush over a Democrat, then I'll work on defeating the bill that would grant driver licenses to illegal aliens. That's the way to move forward.
Now, answer my question Bubba.
What does the fact that the majority of the 9/11 hijackers were issued driver's licenses while they were here legally have to do with illegal aliens being issued driver's licenses?

But yes, that's the point, and the "author" was disingenuous in his mention of the hijackers...he did it in order to elicit an emotional response. I agree, an emotional repsonse that could be rationally compared to a "high" a crack addict gets, IMO.
