I stand corrected. In the following very amusing article,

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/23/AR2006052301929_pf.html

Taylor's jacket is described as "puce", not purple.

But even after reading one more article predicting Taylor's win a sure thing, I'm sticking by Katherine. Because...

1. Voters this year have seemed to delight in shocking the judges. As if voters wised up and didn't allow themselves to be manipulated by the scripted banter of the judges.

2. I bet teenagers (girls especially), and their parents are the most relentless voters and they are entranced by Kat's beauty, her lovely voice, and her sweet, self-effacing demeanor.
(My butt's too big, I can't breathe in this dress, and her honest self-appraisals)

3. I think disgruntled Chris voters and disappointed Elliot voters will vote for Kat.

4. Taylor and the rest of the world are so certain he will win, I bet they won't feel the urgent need to vote for him. I'm a Katherine fan, but I bet even those who aren't were put off by Taylor's cocky "I've already won this thing" attitude last night.

But like I said before, if I'm wrong, if Taylor does win, the political message is one I love: The southern vote will decide this thing.

Excellent analysis once again.

I agree with your comments about all the vocal gymnastics that we here today. It's getting very tiresome. Some of the most beautiful voices in history just SANG the songs, the pure notes. I use the word "silky" a lot when I refer to those types of voices.

One that pops immediately into my head is the late Karen Carpenter. What an absolutely flawless and pure voice she had. No gymnastics with the notes, just perfection.

Another of the best all time voices in my opinion is Pat Benetar. I realize that to some, she may have seemed like a screamer. However, she has a range that is very nearly unparalleled. Again, no gymnastics, just hitting the notes that few can.

Then there are the great male voices. I have compared Elliott to the likes of Luther Vandross and Smoky Robinson and though, he has a tendency for the melisma, my assertion still stands. In between the vibratos, Elliott has shown a pure, "silky" quality in his voice that is appealing and comforting. No gymnastics needed. He can, so he does, but hopefully, he will realize he doesn't NEED to.

Anyway, in a nutshell, I agree that Kat looks the Idol type more than Taylor, but she is better suited for the stage, which is where she ultimately wants to be anyway.

So, lets say Taylor wins and he doesn't outsell Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood because his genre isn't as popular. I say, who cares. Taylor brings joy to people when he sings. His connection to the music and his audience is undeniable. Something Kat is simply not capable of, or at least, hasn't shown that she is.

Taylor feels the musis will every fiber of his being. People see it, and he makes the listeners feel it to, and THAT is something. Taylor and Elliott are the only performers that I actually looked forward to hearing each week. And with Taylor, I never felt on needles and pins, wondering if he was going to hit sour notes, or fall on his face. I just expected what I always got, to be entertained and to enjoy watching and listening to him.

Taylor isn't the perfect mold of an Idol, well, I don't care. He may not go multi-platinum, I don't care about that either. Some may be disappointed if the gray-haird kid from Alabama wins, oh well. He deserves to win no matter how mainstream and hip, he is not.

Go Taylor!!! You'll get at least $15 from this girl, and I was never a fan of the blues, but I am now.

Was reading the NYPost and they interviewed lots of 'beautiful people' about their choice.

The think I noticed was that just about everyone mentioned that Taylor made them smile.

That's really the bottom line.....he made me smile....every time, every song.

LOL!! Your comments were spot on. I actually considered trying to get tickets for when the tour comes through Chicago just to see Taylor and Elliot. Then, sanity struck and I realized 1- my husband wouldn't go with me and 2- people would look at me funny for being there with no one 8-15 years old (unless I forced my 9 year old niece to come with me LOL).

Plus, Taylor will be on the road for a loooong time. Even if he's not playing places like the United Center or Allstate Arena he'll play places like Fitzgerald's or Joe's on Weed St.

The last point I wanted to make, but fogot, is that a Taylor win may be disappointing for some because he isn't the Idol cookie cutter. So what? American Idol will get over it. There's always next season, but I think Taylor has been good for Idol. He brought attention to a style of music that many teens or others would probably not have even thought to listen to. He's done his job.

Taylor playing on Weed street?

That's funny. Didn't he get pulled over back when he was in school and was found to have some mary-jane on him?

He is bringing a new show. So you think you can dance to the TV soon too.

Simon's new show is "America's Got Talent."

That is uncalled for. SirLinks has every right to post what he wants, the same as you. (As long as it is not violent or profane). Everyone has liked his comments before.

See what happens when you watch TV long long past your bedtime. You forget what the heck you saw. LOL.

Is there anything about a new dance show or did I dream that?

In an interview this morning she commented on the fact that she's already famous. Good grief! Girl, get over yourself.

It was probably in answer to a question about life post-AI should she lose. All the Idols who have been booted say basically the same thing-- that they are excited about what they can do with the exposure and popularity they gained from the show, saying that "win or lose" she's already famous and has lots of opportunities in front of her and that she shouldn't feel suicidal about losing on the show.

Yes, I read that on The Star online that charges were dismissed.

(SJ, more teenage gang members forcing me to read tabloids. They are out of control in the Chicagoland area)

If she's wise, she'll use her AI exposure to get into acting. That's what she said she wants to do anyway.

I agree. I heard her say she wanted to do acting but then the she says "this" is what she has always wanted. Guess someoe told her to not harp on the acting bit if she wants to win a SINGING competition. I actually really liked her first song. She was in to it and acted like she was having fun. THAT is what she needs to do. Not the mechanical-swing her head to the camera and SMILE thing (no matter what kind of song she is singing) she has been doing. I was just talking to our daughter and she likes Kat. Thinks we don't like her singing. I told her it more that she doesn't connect to the music. Too much like a little girl play acting singing.
