Not defending Mel, here. If he said something antisemitic, he said something antisemitic.

But there was nothing antisemitic about the film, and it did not stir up any antisemitism.

I find Jews who find something antisemitic in the Gospels to be as big a bigots as Christians who do are.

Well putting Mel aside for a minute...I am a Christian and I agree with the Jews!!! I find something antisemitic in the gospels. I do. I think the gospels are anti-Jewish. I have from the time I was first exposed to them as a kid in grade school. This is not to say I was taught to be antisemitic by my teachers. Not at all. I never once had an anti-semitic teacher. It was just the New Testament stories especially the preachings of St. Paul seem awfully hard on Jews. And I remember as clear as a bell mentally resisting what was said about the Jews in the New Testament. I disagreed with it and I felt that I sould not disagree with the bible. But I did. Because the New Testament in young mind was mean to the Jews and I did not think it was right.
