Just because nobody you know carries a gun on a daily basis and btw, how do you know? If it's concealed and the person makes no mention of being the holder of a concealed weapons permit...you might not know if your best friend carried or not. Anyway, your tone and verbiage suggests guns are for hunting. You seem to be seeing the situation from the point of view of someone who is isolated from the gritty reality of city crime and even from the hovering threat presented by terrorism.
I live in the country and no, I haven't seen a lot of crime, thank God. If I lived in the city I might feel differently. I have no problem with anyone who wants or feels the need to carry a gun. I only said we see them during hunting season. Your problemo, not mine.
