Wandwork! She said wandwork,

She also talked about wizards comparing their wand sizes. and that it was not always important whose was biggest!

But, I agree she did just sort of "pop up" as his romantic interest in HBP.

Aw c'mon. We saw that coming from the first book when she couldn't take her eyes off him at the train station.

Then the fun began. I walked in to the house with the sealed copy, handed it to my HP maniac daughter, and said, "Here, I managed to find one, but you can't open it - it's a collector's edition". I only let her go nuts for a half a minute or so before I pulled out the other copy :o).

That was really mean. I like it.

Well, true... and then she went and got herself possessed by Tom Riddle's diary, just so Harry could rescue her...

we couldn’t cancel the orders from Amazon.

Would you like to send your extra books to the troops?

It was in the sorting hat, where it was when Harry needed it to kill the basilisk. Only a true Gryffindor would find it there when needed.

Ok, I ran this crazy theory by a friend today. From the info in the book, it’s clear that Harry killed Voldy in 1997. Then the epilogue is 19 years later, 2016. My theory is that that’s when we can expect the next “Potter” book from J.K. Yeah, I know she’ll deny it. But numbers don’t lie. : )

I'll accept the ending as JKR wrote it because that was her artistic vision. But if "moi" had written the ending, Harry would have gone back to Hogwarts as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and revived Professor Snape (my favorite character in the series) and Snape would have remained as a mentor to Harry, trapped between dimensions and only visible and accessible for five minutes a day. Snape would be reformed - almost.

Harry would not marry, he would become a priest-wizard and vow not to marry. He would be on the fast track to become Headmaster.

I never saw a spark between Hermione and Ron, so I wouldn't pair them in marriage. That's too easy a resolution of what to do with the second and third most important characters, pairing them off. Too easy.

But like I said, I'll grant JKR her artistic integrity and accept the series as written.

Huh, I saw a spark between Ron and Hermione from the beginning. Certainly in book 4, when she told him that he should have asked her first if he wanted her to go to the ball with him.

Your ending would have been... interesting. My ending would have had Harry lose all his magical powers and live quietly on the edge between the magical and Muggle worlds.

:o) Oh, they're used to me by now....this year on April 1 I told the twins that they were going to have precious little free time, since I had signed them up for a charity walk and they were responsible for getting $500 each in pledges.

When one of them demanded to know the "cause", I replied with a totally straight face, "Save the Planet, of course!". There was dead silence - especially given my continual rantings against the Global Warming Propaganda they receive at school.

.speaking of social commentary,

My most favorite part of the social commentary was that the newspapers lie to promote an agenda.

I can't thank J.K. enough for warning kids not to believe everything they read in a newspaper or hear on the news, and for making heroes and heroines out of kids who try hard to figure the truth out for themselves.

Oh yes, definitely as early as Book 4... Ron was big-time jealous of Viktor Krum going after Hermione.

Heh, my favorite Ron/Hermione moment in Book 7, was when Ron came back, and Hermione pitched a fit at him, wondering if there was anything else he could think to say, other than "I'm sorry".

I think she was wanting to hear the "three little words". ;)

I was pushing to get through and totally missed Tonks and Lupin.

I can see how that could be. They were mentioned as being on the floor of the Great Hall. After learning about Fred, knowing they were gone too just did me in. Didn't even make the connection between Harry who was going to be Godfather of an orphan as Sirius was to him.

Rowlings was fine with writing some pretty intense violence in her children’s books... I don’t see why the death of the main character is all that awful that an eleven/ twelve year old couldn’t stomach it...

And Neville totally surprised me taking up the role as Freedom Fighter......

Oh, that didn't surprise me at all. That's been building since "Order of the Phoenix", when he was so keen to join Dumbledore's Army. He wanted to fight those who had so brutally attacked his parents. I'm glad his Gran finally saw him in action, and could be proud of him!

Actually in the Socerer's Stone (Philosopher's Stone) Neville's extra 2 points awarded by Dumbledore, for having the bravery to stand up to his friends was what put them over the top for the House Cup. He has always been steadfast and brave. And the actor in OOTP has grown up to be able to play him still diffident but courageous and kinda cute. He'll really enjoy doing the last HP movie.

No... the Epilogue was just so unoriginal that every thirteen year old Harry Potter fan had already written it.
