Possibly unrelated, but neat if it is a reference, in Japanese folklore, where we see a man in the moon, they see a rabbit. So Luna having a hare patronus seems very appropriate.

Good catch. Also, the British use “rabbitty” to mean something similar to our “moonbat.”

American Indians in the South west also see the rabbit in the moon. A mad hare patronus fits Luna on soooo many levels.
