PHOENIX — The mother of a 17-month-old boy found dead after he was left unattended inside a hot car for at least seven hours in a north Phoenix Hooters restaurant was arrested on one felony count of negligent homicide.
Police say the woman, Ashly Duchene, 22, left her son in her car when she arrived at the north Phoenix Hooters restaurant where she works at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. When she returned to the car after her shift at nearly 5 p.m., her son was dead.
Efforts to revive the boy by witnesses, officers and firefighters were unsuccessful. Police Sgt. Joel Tranter said temperatures hit nearly 90 degrees Tuesday, but that it would have been more than 100 degrees inside the car.
FOX 10 Phoenix reports the baby's mother had planned to drop the child off at childcare before heading to work at a restaurant near Bell Road and Interstate 17.
Instead, authorities say the mother went to work with the child still inside the car.

The baby was in a car seat in the backseat of a Honda Civic, which had very dark tinted windows. Officials believe that made him unnoticable to people going in and out of the restaurant and a car wash next door, the Republic reported.
It's unknown if the mother will face any charges in the child's death. Tranter said situations like this are handled "on a case-by-case basis."
So far, there have been no arrests.

Seriously how committed to a paycheck do you have to be? How warped are your values? Somewhere you have to draw the line, give up, and apply for welfare. Of course I didn’t watch “in pursuit of happiness” just because looking at the previews the guy was being soo negligent chasing his dream. Sadly all success stories don’t end with a movie deal that tells the story.
Some end quite tragic like this one.
Years ago when mother were able to have the child with them in the front this never had this happening.
They should design something where the carrier would be fixed on the floor in the front this way the mother could check on the baby when stoping at lights!
I heard they make some thing that beeps when you leave the car to remind you of a baby in back seat!
Come on, how intelligent do you have to be to write on an internet message board? Intelligent enough to be able to spell? It's a simple word b-a-b-y. Or are you so wrapped up in the fact that mom worked at hooters, you can't even see tragedy anymore?
If any of you care, the correct responce to a story like this would be something like, my god I hope that never happens to me or someone I know, poor baby. Bless his/her soul.

Once in a while I will leave my cell phone in the car and once I even left my keys in the car. Both were dumb moves. However, I have never left my baby in the car. That would not only be moronic but criminal.
I feel bad for this woman that killed her baby and I pray for her boy.
That's what I would like to know.
