The question I have about Kenya is : Did Britain declare in advance they would be and independent country?

Sometimes colonies have been decreed free by the colonizer (read evil imperialist), so that it is known that on a certain date the independence would be official.

I think you are correct, if memory serves. A number of British colonies in Africa were granted independence from 1957-1963, almost according to a schedule. Kenya was a little behind the others, possibly because of political unrest during the ‘50’s.
