Kenya became a Republic. It's Constitution adopted in 1963...
Sounds like it became a Republic in 1963 to me.
Few of the British colonies took the name “Republic of..”, most took the name “Commonwealth of..” as in “Commonwealth of Australia.” A few took “Dominion of...”, as in Canada. “Republic” implies a rejection of the Crown, which the UK wanted to avoid, and so prevailed upon newly independent nations from her empire to avoid such terminology.
As I have said in previous posts, Kenya was in some degree of chaos in that period, and it’s not unreasonable to expect to see some level of inconsistency in their government’s functioning.
The original 1963 constitution, as it was posted here, does not contain the word “republic” as later versions do.
Some claim this is proof that this early 1964 document is a fake since Kenya wasn’t officially a republic at that time.
Others point out that they may have started to call themselves the Republic of Kenya well before Dec. 12, 1964. This is certainly possible, in my opinion, and understandable considering the fact that most of the other newly independent African nations called themselves republics.
Supposedly, according to WND, other documents from the Republic of Kenya exist that were issued prior to Dec. 12, 1964, but we haven’t seen any of them.
As far as I am concerned, nothing has been proven or disproven yet.
>Sounds like it became a Republic in 1963 to me.<
But the document in question was allegedly created on 17 feb 64. They would have used the current title correct?
So Republic of kenya would be right in this instance.
