Great point. To take that a little further, since they were divorced in Hawaii, why would they need to get it from Kenya if he was born in Hawaii?

Maybe his mother requested it in order to secure U. S. citizenship because they were divorcing and she was afraid Hussein sr would try to take her son back to Kenya or wherever he went after the divorce.
