I lost a friend over my decision to homeschool. My friend incessantly bragged about all of her kids' public school opportunities that mine were missing. All the AP classes, honors, awards, band trips, etc. I just listened and did not boast of all of the similar opportunities we had. My friend scoffed at the idea that mine could ever get into a real college, let alone get a merit scholarship .

The friendship was lost more over the political climate of the last election than the homeschooling. Of course the libs do hate homeschooling, and I had taken enough of her barbs. Have not spoken to her in almost a year now.

If I spoke to her now, I would have to tell her that my highschool senior has now received a full academic merit scholarship to a major university.

Mine did equally well. They all also got invited to join the honors programs in their respective big name major universities.

My oldest is actually graduating college this year and heading off to grad school. Unreal how fast they grow up.

My first is now 18 and just finished her first semester in college with three As and 2 A-minuses. No, she didn’t have AP classes in high school. She took real junior college classes instead.
