Take names. Remember them. The behavior of certain Republicans who call themselves Tea Party conservatives makes them the most destructive posse of misguided “patriots” we’ve seen in recent memory.
If the nation defaults on its financial obligations, the blame belongs to the Tea Party Republicans who fragged their own leader, John Boehner. They had victory in their hands and couldn’t bring themselves to support his debt-ceiling plan, which, if not perfect, was more than anyone could have imagined just a few months ago. No new taxes, significant spending cuts, a temporary debt-ceiling solution with the possibility of more spending cuts down the line as well as action on their beloved balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution.
These people wouldn’t recognize a hot fudge sundae if the cherry started talking to them....

Boehner believed, and said so publicly more than once, the nearer this was brought to the Aug 2 deadline the LESS leverage the GOP would have. And, as we'll see in the next couple of days, he was absolutely correct and we'll get the worst plan imaginable.
Establishment Republicans are starting to realize that the TEA Party activists aren’t kidding when they say they put country ahead of Party. The stupid, old countryclubbers thought that they could dupe the hicks in fly-over country; that they could vote with their DNC pals and still get the yokels to reelect them. Now they’re getting pissy because the rank-and-file actually expect them to act like conservatives.

So far today alone I’ve seen nasty attacks on Laura Ingraham, Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, and Col Allen West because they won’t march in lockstep on this issue.

I had to google to find that poll. It’s enlightening to read the other questions to see how left tilted CNN poll takers are, and STILL 3/4 of them want a balanced budget amendment.
