No. I think it is more like “insane optimism”. Maybe “unrealistic optimism”.

Optimism in the sense that things will get better from a conservative viewpoint, in either case.

Maybe so, but I have never met a optimistic Conservative who has decided to leave the GOP.

It is more like a sad resignation that has taken much thought and angst.
