We have one shot left, winning back the W.H. and getting a filibuster proof Senate before secession becomes our only option.

If the government that you are currently affiliated with has decided to turn against you, and the interest of the people in your region, the succession is your way of recourse. Of course succeeding from the union now will result in a horrible bloodbath brought upon those who would even dare to challenge the feds supreme authority, although in the end it might be worth it. If anyone were to teach the feds the concept of humility, succession is how you would do it.

My only disagreement at this point is that I don't want to be the secessionist, because I am the one obeying and want my leaders to obey the constitution. They are the secessionists. I want to be more of a restorationist.

The problem is that unlike the old South, where there was a thoroughly Southern identity, no such state exists today. Being generous, you might find a state where secession enjoys support from 60% of the population. Secession simply isn’t possible when 4 out of every 10 people are against it. The type of majority that would be needed does not exist.

Secession is a slow moldering burn that last a long time. Then all of a sudden it flares up like wildfire when the yoke is thrown off and freedom is felt cursing through rebel veins. You are alive for the first time.

Listen to central_va, Melas, as (s?)he is correct. Prior to the start of the war, only about 25% of the populations of the Southern states were pro-secession IIRC. Once the initial fighting began, and the people saw what was at stake, in real world terms, the south was galvanized against the murderous tyranny. Things happen at an exponential rate. At first it seems the smoldering so slow that nothing is happening, then there’s the fire.

How would you know one feels alive for the first time? You've never lived through a secession. If might state were to attempt secession, I would work against it in every possible way. I'm an American, born and bred. State citizenship is a grace period before I have to get a new drivers license.

The republic is dead in you. You are dead inside politically. Try to get the concept that this current situation is all an unsustainable illusion, FedGov™ power is fictitious. It is 535 fools running around a 60 square mile swamp pretending to know what they are doing. All politics and loyalties are local. Try to think out of the box. With a simple vote any state can leave crazytown anytime they want to if they are willing to take a chance.

No, I'm just not one of those people who's lived his life within 50 miles of his birth. Which was the norm at the turn of the 20th century btw. By the turn of the 21st century, those people were an ever shrinking minority.

I've lived in seven states so far, and may live in seven more before my life is over.
