He had fairly brokered Islamic factional disputes and conducted outreach efforts in Jerusalem, Cairo, Damascus and Riyadh.
He was "widely regarded as one of the most effective American envoys to the Arab world; If this is true, might this have been a reason for him to have been targeted by Al Queda?
