Scott doesn’t remember him being in his class, that is true. But I don’t remember my kindergarten classmates either.
It’s not a question of what Scott might remember or not, it’s a question of why didn’t his mother show us an image of his kindergarten group photo. She apparently had all his school photo’s in a box.
We could be forgiven for assuming something’s not quite right when one takes into account that little zero’s kindergarten records are the only ones that are LOST.

I remember more of them than I do later years. Traumatic experiences like first going to school tend to stick with us. Certain kids stand out in my mind. Barry was unique (he thinks so) and you’d think all his kindergarten classmates would remember the little black boy.
