The site you so highly recommend affirms David’s life and death:

The supposed discrepancy is easily resolved. Mark is speaking in the present tense. He & Barry are the only two mixed race Obamas now. He doesn’t mention David because David is long dead. I.e.: he’d have had to shift to past tense to include David (which he didn’t do because he was speaking of the present, not the past). That’s just simple English language usage.
Perhaps that was simply far too subtle. What she should have written was This is curious because Mark IS CLAIMED TO HAVE had a full brother–David Obama–also the son of Ruth Baker and Barack Obama Sr.
But subtle isn't everyone's cup of tea, nor is irony. A lot of people are sometimes just too busy looking for the next place to rearrange the chairs on the Titanic.
Sadly, there are folks who don't take the time to read a comment, think about it, reply after consideration, or ask a question. Dung flinging isn't progress and doesn't do a thing for understanding.
