Exactly! And when they got into power they ran from the very issues and principles that got them elected. In less than two years the GOP went from Contract with America to DEM LIBERAL LITE and they have showed no sign whatsoever nothing, zilch, in their spew that says they are willing to change or for that matter even for just one more election cycle consider the things that got them to power to begin with ever again.
THE GOP Leadership is it's own worst enemy and self destructive simply because it can not say something on an issue and mean it. The DEMs as bad as they are believe in something. The GOP dropped what it believed in for a good portion of what the DEMS believe in. Am I not telling the truth on this? What about Bob Dole? Can anyone explain how we went from what we had to that in less than two years? I can. The GOP leadership SOLD OUT!
I refuse to vote for their recycled Socialist Has Beens who delivered us previous failed policy. I'll support a good Republican candidate but I will never vote GOP for the sake of the party. It's wrong and it's not being responsible to the trust the founders placed in us to preserve this nation. If the GOP want's to keep selling Socialism and be PC in it's policy I'll look elsewhere. To vote back in RINO's is just speeding up the demise of the fall. Either the GOP must once again learn to stand for something on it's own merit or it will indeed fall. Perhaps that would not be such a bad thing either so a clear and substantial difference in parties can once again be obtained.
As long as the GOP can count unconditionally on party line voters for support it has zero incentive to ever change direction. This perverse song they sing to the people of just one more election will go on till they fall and yes in this direction fall they will.
Let's have some truth here: we had a primary; it's over, and you people are STILL whining like a bunch of babies. If Pat or whoever had won the GOP nomination and not Bush, even if I didn't like it, I would have supported him. Why won't you all do that? Are you that much better than I am? Are you trying to teach us something -- and for THE LOVE OF GOD, do NOT say "there's not a dime's worth of difference between the parties" because it just makes you look silly -- something like how to throw ANY chance of saving this country down the drain because nobody liked MY candidate?
Having the power matters; voting your conscience and wanting the power are not mutually exclusive.
And the reason I would have supported him is because we NEED to take back the Senate and retain the house, unless you're just like to keep up this perpetual whine about your conscience for the rest of your life.
You haven't elected jack.
I'm not in the mood for being insulted tonite. Catch you later.
We won Congress because the Republican leadershp noticed where those votes were lost.
To quote the punchline to a very old joke: "Who's 'we' white man". "'We' won the Congress......" The Republicans, led by the audacious Newt Gingrich, won the Congress, the third party had nothing to do with it. It took a leader to lead the bumbling Republicans to achieve anything. Newt may have had flaws, but he knew how to lead. The third party voters (unfortunately me in '92) had nothing to do with it. We can agree to disagree on this point, but I am convinced that without Newt Gingrich the Contract with America would never have happened.
Your other points fail to address the third party affect on the system. My '92 vote was worse than wasted as it facilitated the election of Clinton. We can argue about Clinton vs. Roosevelt vs. Lincoln, that is separate from the subject at hand. Doing anything to turn the country over to the Clintons is more dangerous than to Bush and the Republicans. I don't like the Patriot Act either, it shouldn't be there, we have work to do to remove it. But we will never remove it by voting to elect Democrats.
Our only hope is to vote for the Republicans and continue to add conservatives to their ranks. It may be too late for that to happen, in which case we are all doomed to servitude or revolution. Personally I still think that was have a chance through the Republicans to stop the leftward slide and maybe, someday, move to the right. We have made a few moves that direction with the Kyoto Protocol nullification and other similar moves so I am not without hope.
You have to remember that I have stated emphatically that Republicans are stupid, you can send them messages until the cows come home, but they are too stupid to understand. Voting third party is simply shooting yourself in the foot to prove that you are unwilling to dance to their tune.
Where's YOUR guy? If your ideas are so noble, why can't you find a guy to run and why don't people vote for him in droves?
You're electing Dems now for crying out loud, they just happen to call themselves Repubs.
And the fact remains that if you people keep going in their and voting for some yahoo just because he has a "R" in front of his name we'll be sitting here fussing 5 years from now and we'll have shifted that much more to the left.
I'll bet you anything you want to bet on that one.
Wasn't it Ben Franklin who said "The definition of insanity is repeating the same behavior over and over but expecting different results"? Sounds like what happens when you keep voting "R" and expecting them to become conservatives.
If the shoe fits......
I never expect to convince anybody around here, just defend my position. ;) Most everyone here already has their mind made up one way or the other. The great thing about it is that we'll all find out who was right eventually. It'll just take a few years.
