You know, I've been a Catholic for 40 years now, and my wife converted in 2002; neither of us has heard a priest say he's forgiven our sins.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [1Jo 1:9]

Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. [Jam 5:16]

Why then, the confessional? Why not confess to the one or ones you sinned against? If the sin wasn't of a personal nature, but rather against a Holy and Just God; confess to Him; not a priest.

Forgive was a wrong word, absolution was the word I should have used.

BTW, how many "hail-marys" did your last sin cost ya? how many first Fridays? how many first Saturdays? how many rosaries?

NO, I don't really want to know. Think about it, though.
