I don't know where... but I thought it was based on exit polling. Since the exit polls were so horribly wrong, how could they be reliable for uncovering voter motivations?

It sounds to me like you friends are working on losing their next election.
Liberals want to label all conservatives in one way. They want to label us as the "Christian right, fundamentalists, and extremists". They label us because it's easier than defending their own position. They see no need to defend their position to people who are too stupid to recognize that liberals are right.
Liberals call me a fundamentalist all the time and i haven't attended a church service in over 20 years. The same would be true if I married a black woman but still opposed affirmative action, I would still be seen as a racist.
Liberals are trying to find a reason for so many people to back Bush and are getting it wrong right down the line. I don't see myself as a deeply religious person but I am a Christian. I support the president because he clearly understands the danger posed by fundamentalist Islam.
In the rare event that a liberal actually stops and listens to what I think, they usually find themselves in shock because we agree on many issues.
