The only Dem county in North Florida is Alachua, where I live. And the Dems are not conservative Southern Democrats, but NE liberals who have moved down here to teach at the university - the hardcore, in other words. Pres Bush visited Gainesville on the Sunday before the election and my county, which has a 2-to-1 Dem ratio, ALMOST went GOP for about the first time ever.

Actually, Gilchrist, Levy, Dixie and many other counties in the vicinity of Gainesville are majority democrat. Alachua is the only liberal county in North Central FL, but not by a long shot the only democratic county. I know people in office in some of these areas who are as conservative as I am, and openly so, but who could never have been elected if they weren't democrats.
